I got my 2010 FE570, wooo hooo, trying to get it all dialed in, lots to do in a short amount of time, Is there any way that a dealer could flash my bike in Gunnison? I notice the bike pops allot on deceleration, I have read the dealers have been flashing the computer with the 09 mapping. Can anyone help????
Thanks
Sethro

MY '09 pops sometimes on decel too, but only in certain circumstances - partial throttle. If I close the throttle all the way then no popping.

thanks, I have rode both the 09 and the 10, the 10 is waaaayy leaner, it is CA legal too so you know it has to be pretty lean to pass that. I still want the reflash to make it run as good as the 09

My 2010 FE450 is popping and backfiring on deceleration so it is getting the re flash.
Are all the 2010 North American bikes running lean? What has changed since 2009?
Seems like a waste of time to make all bikes not run properly for one state!

The 2010 bikes are now EPA legal in all 50 states in America, last year they were not, and were considered "closed course" bikes so they came with a map that reflected that. They also did not come with a USFS approved spark arrestor, but the 2010's do, all part of the epa legal thing I guess.

I have also recently found out that the 2009 US bikes, although equipped with the 02 sensors were not using them as this was required for the Euro 2 emissions restrictions. The Euro bikes also had a small catalytic converter at the front of the muffler to further compliment these emissions controls. And in Europe, these bikes are street legal.

So now, the bikes are "green" and this is apparently making them pop on decel, and interestingly enough no longer have 02 sensors. In addition to this, the 2010 bikes have a sealed gas tank, or coating that does not allow any vapors to escape through the sides of the tanks, and that's why they are a bit darker in color than the 09's. I wonder if the US bikes also have a cat in the exhaust??

How about any of our Euro members out there? Do you have this popping problem on decel on the 2010 bikes or the 2009's???

It will not take much more, more than money anyway, to make these bikes street legal in the US, so perhaps that will be coming in 2011.

So other than shooting ducks on decel is your bike running good under power, on/off throttle, etc....?

After the re flash my 2010 FE450 runs great!
It is a simple plug in for the dealer and then let the bike idle for 5 minutes.

It's a big state and the customers there buy a LOT of motorcycles. Green sticker legal almost doubles the sales for Husaberg.

A little information about the Green Sticker thing for those not familiar with the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia. RPK is the king of restrictive environmental laws, this is accomplished through an unregulated governmental board known as CARB, or California Air Resources Board. Every year for as long as I can remember they come out with new "clean air standards" that are more stringent than the prior years, and the EPA.

We have our own special blends of gasoline that change by the season, and it used to be anyway, that a California smog legal car was always more expensive due to extra emission requirements. I must admit, they have accomplished their goal as the air quality here in Southern Kalifornia is exponentially better than it was when I was a kid, heck we haven't even had a stage 1 smog alert here since the early 90's. However, their rules are so stringent that you can non longer convert a dirt bike to a street bike, one of the reasons was that regular plastic gas tanks allow a certain amount of the lighter ends to evaporate through the plastic. ( note: the average car manufactured these days produces 85% less emissions than a car produced 30 years ago)

So several years back, Kalifornia decided that the old Green Sticker off road licensing would take on a new role as an environmental tool. Green sticker bikes had to meet certain emission standards, those that didn't were given a Red sticker. The Green sticker bikes can ride all year round on STATE and FEDERAL lands, while a RED sticker can only ride during certain months of the year, or on private property all year.

And it used to be that as long as your bike was a fourstroke you would pass the emission requirements since they burned so much cleaner than a 2 stroke. However, wtih CARB's ever changing requirements even fourstroke bikes were no longer GREEN STICKER legal. That's why the 08's were not GREEN STICKER legal, b/c they didn't have the coating on the inside of the gas tank.

See the main site here: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/ohvredgreen.htm

See the Red Sticker schedule here: http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/pages/1234/file ... easons.pdf

So, if you only ride on private tracks then a red sticker doesn't matter to you. However, if you want to ride in the state OHV parks, BLM land, or a good portion of the National Forest Service land you can only ride there with a Red Sticker from October 1st to April mostly, and some places as late as May. The desert area's don't matter much, way too hot in the summer, but, the higher elevations are very desirable during the summer as it is way cooler up there. There are a couple of easy ways around this RED sticker nonsense, but, it keeps people from buying a bike that can't be ridden whenever they want. Can you say summer vacation with the kids?

And to Clay's point, it is a big state, the most populous in the Union at around 38 or 40 million people. In fact, as a stand alone Economy Kalifornia is the 9th largest economy in the world. Our weather here is great which means that people can always find a place to ride within a couple hours drive.

So there you have it JKL, if you make the bikes Kalifornia legal you can sell a lot of them here and in all the other states too.

Here is a picture of the spark plug out of the 2010 570, looks a little lean

The part that your picture shows will usually be white like yours on most modern high energy ignition systems when the mix is right. With a bright light have a look down inside the plug and see what it looks like there.

Looks like you have a little over 3 threads of heat, and that's pretty good. Usually 3 threads of heat is the minimum.

The grounding tang looks good. I can't see how well the electrode looks from your picture. Have a look with a magnifying glass and see if it's still square. Also make sure the gap is correct.

Otherwise, put it back in there and ride it. You'll get a re-flash in CO, and jkl said his 450 ran way better after that, so you have to look forward to.

How about increasing the idle speed? I live in Peru at 2,800 meters elevation, and experienced the same thing: backfiring when off the throttle. Minor tweak to idel speed has appeared to fix the problem.
