2010 FX 450 wiring/light/fan

Hello Gang...Just brought home my new 2010 FX450. Need some help. Was under the premise that the wiring harness would be the same as the FE. For clarity, the FEs that came to Canada in 2009 were not equipped with factory lighting.

Any thoughts on how one can utilize the lights from the FE for the FX. Have the front and rear saved from my 09'. I see 2 plugs under the battery compartment once the tank is removed, although the ends do not mate. As for the front light, go figure ??? 2-3 plug ends doing nothing above the engine.

another query, under the "fitted parts for you bike" on the official site, it does list the fan for the FX. No removable plug on the left side radiator??? That fan kit has to work...?

Please advise and any ideas would be muchly appreciated...

Trevor

I have the same bike. Purchase the wiring harness part #81211075120 They are $98.34 US. It will plug right in to every thing and if you put OEM lights and switches (which I did) all of it will plug in also. The fan in the parts catalogue will also plug right in. Good luck Fritz

Thanks a ton Fritz...! Will probably have to purchase the RH radiator regardless as there is no bung for the sensor. Unless there is a secret one hiding somewhere..LOL! Hopefully the tail light will work too! Will let you know once parts arrive how things play out.

Hello Boozer,
Just the person I would like to ask a ? since you have both a FE and FX. How is the FX gearbox compared to the FE? Is it that much closer? I'm buying a 570 and have ordered the FX 1st and 2nd gear to install in my 570. I want a tighter 4 speed for mx. Then the standard 5th and 6th for off-road/street. Sorry for the off-topic ?
Thanks

Everything works fine...plugs in as indicated. The fan will will plug in, BUT...doesn't work on FX RH radiator.

Boozer - I am doing the exact same thing and I have the same questions that you have. I am waiting on the lighting harness to get here, so it isn't clear how that plugs in. I assume one of the connectors under the battery compartment plugs into the new harness? There is a 2 PIN and a square 4 PIN. Also, did you figure out what the 2 loose connectors are for above the engine?

I have installed the Enduro Engineering brake light switch and the tail light for an FE. Maybe when I can see the harness it will make more sense.

It is hard to tell from this picture what connector this is. (3) is the lighting harness.

Did you figure it all out? I just got an 2010 FX 450 and I’m trying to figure out what I need for headlights/fan. I’ve never messed with wiring so all information would be appreciated. Thanks

Yeah, it isn't all that hard. You need this stuff to make an FX street legal.

Extra leg of the wiring harness for the lights. It plugs right in to the existing FX harness.
Front and rear brake light switches (my rear is the Enduro engineering one)
Headlight assembly/hardware and support bracket. The bracket works with the FX fender.
Light switch/horn/kill switch.
Rear light/license plate bracket
Rear brake light
Rear fender (optional if you just drill the FX fender and use a couple of bolts for the 2 rear holes)
I bought the OEM computer/speedo bracket, but the computer is no longer available. I got a Trailtech one and with some longer bolts from the hardware store, I got it to work.

I also bought the mount for the Magura clutch lever to mount the mirror. That really helped clean things up. Sicass Racing maybe?

The only part that I struggled with was finding the right wire for the kill switch. It was buried right in the center of the bike under the tank. From what I recall, it was yellow with a black stripe.

Also, you have to be a little creative and search for part numbers and not just enter the year and model. For example, I ordered a rear fender for a 570 FE and it bolted right up. Rocky Mountain MC showed out of stock on the 450 FE fender, but it was the same part number as the 570. The FE fenders have an extra insert for the brake light/license plate bracket.

I had good luck mostly with Rocky Mountain MC finding all this stuff.

Once you have the switches and harnesses, it all makes sense. The connectors are all different, so it is pretty fool proof as far as what plugs into what.

Thanks! I really appreciate your help!
So I just need to buy the lighting harness and I should be good
