Hello all, I found a great deal today on brand new 2010 FX 450 with the "race kit". The bike fired up fine. So I hit the throttle (cold) from idle to about 50% it would bog and sputter then go back to normal idle speed. I gave the salesman a funny look and he assured me it needed to warm up for a couple minutes. So we tested his theory and it didn't get any better. He didn't seem to know much more about the bike then I did so he shut it off and asked the service department and one of the mechanincs told him it's cold don't worry about it. The pressure to buy it is killing me because it's their last one....Does this bike need to be warmed up even further? Or is their a mapping/EFI issue?

I don't know, but I can tell you that mine starts instantly and idles perfectly, even in cool 50 degree weather. Whatever is causing an issue with the one you are looking at is a minor thing, I'm sure.

I have a 2010 FX450 and it will only stutter for about the first ten/fifteen seconds after starting it on a really cold morning. After that, it runs just fine. I would suspect either they need to reflash the ECU, something under the air filter, or some of the FE bikes have had a substance in the gas tank that clogs the fuel filter.

My 390 2010 runs lean, when I get a chance I'll have the ECU re flashed at the dealer. $45.00

Hey Boanders where do you plan on getting it reflashed at? The dealer that is selling the 450 I want is actually a Harley Davidson dealer in Simi Valley(3 hour drive). Don't feel like drivin that far anytime I need something minor. Is their a place in Bakersfield?

Husaberg reseller in Bakersfield went out of business. Outside of Bakersfield forgot what town it was. I live in Tehachapi. Forced to take my bike to Malcolm Smith motor sports in Riverside. I bought the bike there and I believe they have the right equipment but I do like the dealership in Simi Valley as well and they can probably do the same thing. FX is a great bike and especially with the race package. I had Factory connection do my suspension to my liking and It is a 390 FX now...

Cool. I gotta go down to Lancaster this Friday so I figure I'll drive the extra hour to Simi Valley again with money in hand. I'll let it warm up again and check see if I can get a reflash if I don't like it. Now, with the "race kit" they're giving me a FMF slip on and a couple maps to go with it. Are those the maps specific to the exhaust? Or is their a Akropovic/FMF map that needs to be installed?

I don't know what maps are available. Tell the dealer that 2010's runs lean from the factory and what maps are available to "richen" it up. Malcolm Smith dealership in Riverside seem to have a good idea what to do. Aftermarket exhaust should help as well. Please let me know what they say/recommend. By the way I have meet a lot of good riders from Ridgecrest on the MX track in CAl. City. You will love the Berg! Good luck.

I ended up buying it. This bike is a beast. I let it warm up for about 10 minutes and it was fine. As far as maps go, Simi Valley Harley Davidson don't have anything for maps. They said by December they should have the capability to map your bike to whatever spec you want.

I figured you bought the FX. Bought the blue clutch cover there in Moorpark this week and they said someone from Ridgecrest bought the FX. Awesome! Enjoy your new ride! Factory connection are really cool people to deal with as well. Stay in touch.

I also bought a new 2010 FX 450, this is what I got with mine, it took a couple weeks. My local dealer is 4hrs away, and shipped it to me when it came in (Thanks 417 Powersports in Springfield Missouri, GREAT Guys to work with!!). The picture in the link below shows the map switch on the right side of the picture. The rubber cover slides off and there is a knob with #'s. Setting #1 is a milder than stock setting #2 is the advanced setting and #3 on to #10 is the stock setting, according to the directions.
I had my dealer install the map switch and an hr meter before I drove down and picked up the bike. They sent the rest last week : ) The bike sounds Niiiiicccccee with the new FMF silencer. Wakes it up too : ) I hope to send off the suspension in a month or so when it gets cold here.
Did they tell/explain the break in procedure? 1 hr oil and filter change and screen clean (it's the bolt next to the drain bolt that has to come out first, then the screen bolt will come out). Then at 3hrs do the same...Then I guess what ever your comfortable with, some guys to it after every 5 hrs, maybe sooner if it were race conditions..
Someone in another thread had talked about an upper screen, might have been TT. Anyway, I couldn't find another screen in the Parts manual, any body know anything about an "upper Screen"? My dealer didn't know of another one..
As far as a hesitation, I think it just may be a little tight, needs to be broken in. Mine maybe has a slight hesitation at idle and then blipped when not warmed up, but it Rips when your riding it after warmed up!! :D
Happy Riding!! 8)

Congrats! There is an upper screen that you should clean as well. By the exhaust. Manual is very detailed and very helpful. Enjoy the ride.

Just follow the hard line on the front side of the motor to the top. It's a 17mm banjo style bolt. Pull the bolt down with attaching screen... After the bike gets warmed up, it rips. I was just being impatient when I was at the dealer. Race kit is being shipped now. I Cant wait.

Cool, Thank you for the help on the upper screen :D , I better get out there and clean it. Going to a Hare Scramble tomorrow as a track cop/ref  . Wanted to race but a little down in the back. Just got the oil change and such at 1 hr. This will be the first time out at the track, I may have to get on the course to get from one section to another (when no one is coming, of course,)
