2010 FE390 - Will the FE570 motor fit?

So... I just picked up a 2010 FE390 street legal princess with 208 hours. She's got nothing on my non-streetable FE570. Will the FE570 motor (with 105 hours) fit into the FE390? If so, what's the minimum I could swap to make it work right? My 570 is a BEAST and this new 390 is just adequate. I put the license plate on her after work and took it for a 2-mile ride around the neighborhood. She doesn't give it up like the 570 - maybe she needs a bit of tightening? She has a full Akro exhaust too!

After the ride, I checked the air filter. The P.O. must be a fan of 2,000 miles between filter cleanings. I did not ride again after I put the new filter in her because now I MUST change the oil before she's run again.

I'm thinking it's too bad I can't just put the plate on the 570. ;-p

you will need to change the header pipe, the top engine mounting and the air cleaner box, I changed from a 570 to a 450 and used the same ecu, .
hope that's of some help.

No need to change the airbox, a 570 can benefit from the tract :)
And the top mounts to the head should be removed as they do nothing but potentially crack the material in the head.

So put in the 570 engine with header and change ecu if you like.

Wow - Awesome info - Thanks!

Sounds like I can SWAP the motors and exhaust between my 570 and 390. And I might need to swap the ECU?

So - this sounds almost too easy. Anything I should take extra care for the swap?

And yes - this is freaking exciting to me!

Hmmm... Maybe I'll wash the 570 first. ;-p

No need to change the throttle body so you can save some work there, they all are 42mm.

I dont know how the 390 ecu compares to the 570, so I dont know if the mixture for the 390 is good for the 570. What I do know is that the rev limiter is higher in the 390 ecu, so if you swap make sure to change the oil every 15h. Personnaly I would go for 570 ecu, but it is an easy swap.

The airbox on the 570 will be in a different position to the 390, as the barrel is longer on the 570 so different shape boot.

Excellent. Now to find some time to do the swap. I will likely swap the ECU if the rev limiter is different. I have both bikes so I'll swap airboxes also. As for oil changes every 15 hours... I change the oil every 3 hours and the oil filter every 9 hours. Probably too much but it makes me feel better. And I ride like a grandma (but not MY grandma - she was a hellion). Looking for some time Saturday to change the oil on the 390 and ride more than 2 miles to see what else needs to be done.

Oh - the PO says the main oil plug is stripped but not the smaller oil screen plug. I'm never in a hurry so maybe I'll just drain the oil from the screen plug.

May your weekends be perfect for riding!

When you do change this all around let us know what air box you use ?. I'd be interested to know as I had to change them between the 450 and 570 ?

As Jon Anderson said.

Plenty have fitted the 390/450 airbox/snorkel.

Another option is to turn the 390 into a 450 or a 520, then get the ECU remapped.

With little expense and work the 450 is no slouch. I have the 450 and 570.

I'm told that the cases can be any thing from 390 to 570 or bigger. But the 570 is great on the road and off-road. Just big enough for road and light enough for dirt. And the 390 is no slouch off-road!

Turns out the 2010 FE390 motor will NOT fit in the 2012 Husaberg frame. Maybe it's just the type of 2012 FE that I have? heh... heh... heh...

Also - and I don't believe any forum member can relate to this... I mentioned earlier that the air filter in my new 2010 FE390 was NASTY. Like really nasty. So I dropped in a new filter. A couple days later I had time to change the oil. So oil change (and filter) - draining through the screen plug hole since the PO stripped the main drain plug. Really that's no problem. Then, I took little sister FE390 Berg for a test ride. WHAT?!?! Sister has some balls now - the air filter made a HUGE difference. The front wheel lifts in first and second now. Wow - what a difference!!! Don't get me wrong; I think I'll still do the swap. But it made a very noticeable difference in power.

And I'm thinking about picking up a spare FE570 engine with ECU & airbox from mikecarpenter. On the fence about that at the moment.

Cheers,
Dave

I've been dreaming of a 570 swap for my 390!

Super interested in any further info you have as you do this.

Thanks!

Jeff

Sadly i'm in no situation to buy a spare motor at this time :( But I am curious Mike, how much are these 570's going for?

I always figured that when the time comes I might be cheaper/easier to source a whole 570 like ProximityX has here.
