Then you should be able to turn the spring and get the shock collar to turn at the same time. The only time it doesn't work well is when you get a bunch of preload on the spring. It's best if you can get the bike up on the stand. You can then twist the shock spring by hand and most times, with the allen loose on the shock collar, the collar will turn with the spring.
