Here's the story guy's. 2010 Fe570, 700 kms/16 odd hrs from mem. Bike was running fine with no drama's. Had to pull the engine out to have a new crank fitted under warranty, thats another story!!
Got the motor back, fitted it in and fired it up. Started straight away. Put the helmet on and went for a quick ride, approx 5ks to make sure it was all good in the gearbox. Slowed down for a corner and the engine died. pulled the clutch, let it slow down, release the clutch and she fired right up. Off I go and all of a sudden it dies again. slowed down release the clutch and away we go. The 3rd time it did not restart and has not gone since. It has backfired about 3 times, and 2 of those were big ones out the throttle boddy. It Spins over ok, just will not fire
It has spark, cam chain is tight, fuel pump is kicking in, fuses are all good at the batt. As I said, was runnning fine before I pulled the motor.
So I go to pull the tappet cover to check timming, and discover it has been hit in transit and is cracked. The 2 hard to get at bolts (RHS) have been bent about 15deg by the force of whatever hit it.
Next I discover it has zero clearance on the exhaust valves and intakes a little on the tight side but ok.
I'm guessing somthing may be bent on the head on the rocker?? May have to dwelve further.
Will the motor run with zero on the exhaust valves?? I'm guessing not and that they may have well been in spec when assembled, but with the knock and the engine warming up they have gone to zero. I first thought it was a fuel problem as in the way it just died, but now I'm leaning towards a valve problem. I did about 5kms on a bitumen road before it died. got a few more questions for the dealer on this one!! Hope it had insurance on the trip!!
Any thoughts???

Motor will run on zero gap, but just for short time when it's still cold. Then it will start failing due to valve leakage.

I would say it was bad valve adjustment work. Redo it and it will be (probably) just fine.

I would say talk to the dealer first. Explain what is going on and what you found. THEN ask them if it is OK for you to adjust the valves..... If you touch it before they do, they could blame it on you if it comes down to it. I may be paranoid, but better safe than broke.

Its hard to tell as you have just had your motor done but if i was you change the plug. Even if you have a spark!! i had this problem once, i was flat out on a strait and she just died so i rolled to a stop and kicked it for ages but no joy, i removed plug and checked all the fuel lines and electrics still no joy finally started to get some loud bangs and pops and then even started at idle for a sec but i gave in and left it for a few days.. finally i got a new plug on the off chance and she started first kick lol, the plug that was in it was only 4 weeks old thats why i was so surprised. Anyway good luck hope you get it sorted.
