2009 FE570 (USA) Oxygen Sensor?? Remove??

I have read a number of places and heard from a few sources that the oxygen sensor in the header pipe is not used for any purpose in the USA '09 model year FE 570 bikes.

Can it just be removed and replaced with a flush plug? Or does it actually serve a purpose? If not, why is it there?

Getting ready to wrap the exhaust, might wrap that area too.

I have heard the same about the US model o2 sensors. I only wonder if it would set a code once unplugged. You may try unplugging it, taking it for a good ride and see if you get a code.

My dealer says it has to be plugged in - didn't say why.

An oxygen sensor is usually not cheap, so I can't imagine they put it in there if the ECU (is that what it is called?) does not use it.

Code, it's not needed or used, and will not set a code if removed ('09 USA FE's). Plus, it projects into the exhaust stream!

I will second this statement. I've had mine unplugged, and put a bolt with a copper washer in the bung on the mid pipe that is just flush with the end of the bung on the inside of the pipe.

The reason the 02 sensor was there, was for the Euro II emissions standards. When the bikes came to the US in 09, they did not meet EPA standards b/c of the gas tank, that is also why the 09's didn't come with lights. Can't sell a bike in the US with lights if it doesn't meet EPA standards.

So, Husaberg just went ahead and put the "competition Map" in all the 09's. There is an updated comp map for the 010's that can be flashed into the 09's that helps with the cough stall phenom that occurs sometimes. I had my 09 reflashed and the cough stall is greatly reduced.

The best thing about removing the 02 sensor is that there is a heating element that is in this sensor for quick warm up, and the ECU will throw a fault if this wiring goes to ground. However, that being said, I don't know for sure if the heating element is still active with the comp map.
