I am 5 5 and weigh 155 how short can the seat hight on the 09 FE 450 be adjusted Thanks Les

1. Take the seat cover off, take the foam off and make it a bit thinner from the bottom side. Glue the foam back and glue and staple the cover and voilá.
2. If that doesn't help, try changing the rear shock spring to softer one and take some preload off the rear shock. Move the front shock tubes a bit upward in the clamp in order to maintain the geometry.
3. Buy a pair of high platform gothic rock boots, they make your legs at least 5 inches longer. (my next option) ''

Gene Simmons boots from around 1975 will be just perfect.

Your a bit limited in what you can do to lower seat height since the sub frame is really not adjustable.

However, as suggested you can thin out the seat foam a bit, not sure how comfortable that's going to be though.

Suspension: You can't just put more sag in the shock and raise the forks in the tubes and have the suspension work properly. The shock is position sensitive, just like any rising rate suspension. The rear needs to maintain roughly 30-35mm static sag, with the proper spring that gives you the 90-100 mm of rider sag. If you need to lower the bike to make it fit you, you will need to take it to a competent suspension tuner that will lower the suspension properly. You will loose some suspension travel going this route but the bike will still work properly.

RE: Re: 2009 FE 450

It's not that bad. Moving forward becomes a bit harder as the angle becomes steeper. IMHO, it's worth trying.

If it was me, I would take almost all of the foam off (lowering the seat 2-3") - you should be standing anyway. I only use my seat 5% of when I am riding. Once standing, your stature is an advantage because of a lower cg and your legs are bent at less of an angle than a taller rider's. Ride a trials bike for a while and you will realize that a seat isn't really necessary. I am 5'10" and always use a low seat on my ktm for these same reasons. If you still want more, I would spend the $$ to have a knowledgable shop shorten the suspension. Have heard good things about the precision concepts lowered suspension on ktm's. Supposedly the loss in travel is almost made up because the bike's cg is lower and handling is improved.

The 09's are available with both a high seat as well as a low seat. I think they are both listed in the Force parts section of the husaberg website.

Cheers.
