What gearing should I be running , for tight single track ? I bought bike used with 13/50 on bike . I have a 45 , 48, 50, 52, 53 in trailer . I rode 35 miles last weekend , bike did great . Not sure what I should be running ?
13/52 was stock. A lot of guys like the stock gearing but 1st gear is pretty much useless. When I have to replace sprockets, I would try a 51T or perhaps a 50T.
I would stick with the stock 13/52 set up for the tight stuff. I run a 13/50 set up for the desert, and while it works in the tight stuff well enough, I will be running the 13/52 4:1 ratio when I know I'm going to be running a lot of tight stuff.

I might pop the 52 back on it , 50 before lunch ( on bike now ) , then at lunch change to 52 ? Thanks for info !!

going riding today , I woke up early and put the 52 BACK on the bike . so heading out now .

My advice is superglue the 52..so you cant put the 45,48,50 or 53 on before lunch :lol:

Well call me crazy , I HATED the 52 . Riding very tight , root invested single track . The 52 felt " JERKY " very hard to ride . I even had 2 other people ride it . They said its fine ?? ( BUT they NEVER rode the 50 tooth !) But then at Lunch I put the 50 on , and I was ALL over my buddy . He said " Let me ride that thing , " you are faster ". He came back and said WOW , its smoother with a taller gearing ?? 13/50 . Both friends rode bike on same trails 52 vs 50 and ALL 3 of us like the 50 BETTER ??? SO I am SOLD !! 13 /50 for ME !!!!!!! Thanks for all info and help . If you have never tried a 50 , maybe ya should ? We were ALL SHOCKED 2 teeth made that much difference . Was able to ride 2 and 3 rd with the 50 tooth .
