From the KTM talk poll on 2-17-09:

What size tank would you prefer?
I would like a 3.0 gallon tank [ 25 ] [49.02%]
I would like a 3.5 gallon tank [ 20 ] [39.22%]
I would like a 4.0 gallon tank [ 4 ] [7.84%]
I would like a 4.5 gallon tank [ 0 ] [0.00%]
I would like a 5.0 gallon tank [ 0 ] [0.00%]
I would like a 5.5 gallon tank [ 2 ] [3.92%]
Total Votes: 51

Got an email from the tank manufacturer today, and they said the break even point for making a tank was 100.

So far between the KTM talk poll, which has 53 votes, and the poll here, which has 16, that gives a total of 69.

So we're obviously still short, any of you out there that are thinking about it, cast your vote!!

Has the manufacturer had a look at the new Berg tank yet at all ?? so do they know what is invloved ?

What is proposed ??

a complete replacement main tank ??

what about the fuel pump etc ? will that need to be swapped out etc each time by the rider ?

I assume by the poll you are looking at 3.2 gal + or - ??

Who is the manufactuer ??

How quick can they make one and get it on the market ??

All of the above would determine if I put our teams hand up for say 10 tanks

Gazza,

I'll answer your questions in order:

#1." Has the manufacturer had a look at the new Berg tank yet at all ?? so do they know what is invloved ?" According to a reliable source, yes they have had a look at it, and, since they are a large company I would assume they know what's involved.

#2. "What is proposed ??" "a complete replacement main tank ?? I don't know the answer to this question as the manufacturer is still in the decision making process. If I were to venture a guess, I would say a complete replacement tank is what is being considered.

#3. "what about the fuel pump etc ? will that need to be swapped out etc each time by the rider ?" If it is a complete tank then yes I imagine that's what you would have to do, unless you bought a complete set up so it was just a matter of swapping out the tanks. That's what I would do.

#4. "I assume by the poll you are looking at 3.2 gal + or - ?? " That will probably be up to the manufacturer, that's what I set up the polls for at their request.

#5. "Who is the manufactuer ??" I am not a liberty to discuss that. I sent the manufacturer the links to this thread and the thread over at KTMtalk. If they wish to chime in and out themselves that is up to them.

#6. "How quick can they make one and get it on the market ??" I really have no idea. However judging by their size, and my perception of their experience and ability, I would guess not long.

#7. "All of the above would determine if I put our teams hand up for say 10 tanks" Right on, I'm sure that they will take that into consideration. I'll be forwarding this posting to them so they can take your points into consideration.

Thanks for your input.

I really wish you'd answer my pm's to you.

Great thanks for that. The probelm I see with just a main replacement tank is

1) its a pain to swap due to the EFI etc unless the rider also buys a complete fuel pump system as well etc ie much extra $$$$

2) it mean then only one tank size will ever get built, too low a volume of sale to justify a another size

3) it reduces the optionality of a modualr system which could fit many more riders needs by being scalable as per my previous post below

At the moment the rear sub frame conversion can be done for an extra 4L

The Aqualine tank will be additional capacity that mounts and connects to the original main tank, ie shroud wings, seperate sides (bit like the seperate KTM rallye front main tanks or the Mecasystem ones, but not as low, see Aqualine Honda CRF Safari tank for the style), so it will be modular and can be adapted to whatever fuel range you need up to a combined total of 25L

so options would be

Original Main tank 8.5 L
Subframe mod 4 L
Left Shroud 5-8 L
Right Shroud 5-8 L

just mix and match what you want and use original tank & fuel pump set up etc.

fuel pumps aren't a fortune? get the right one from the right people and you can buy them as cheap as chips! you've just got to start looking!

too many of them negative waves man!

i need more information on the subframe mod/any pictures or where do i buy the kit from?

It's been a while since the last post on this topic, and since then the new bikes have gotten nothing but good press and I'm guessing there there might be some new members here that are proud owners of the latest generation of Husabergs.

The aqualine tank turned out to be pretty big, and while I'm sure it 's a great product, I think a lot of people would agree that it's more than what they need.

So I'm just giving this thread a bump to see what the numbers might be now, as there is at least one other company that might be interested in a more OEM type of replacement tank.

Thanks,

Dale

Hi guys !!
I'm about to switch my KTM rallye bike for an FE570 in a few days. I want to find out about bigger tanks. One more for a 3.5 gal tank here !
Cheers.......

The Fuel tank / Range issue is the only thing holding me back from buying the the FE570 I need at least a 100mi range........

I have been patient if nothing is on the horizon soon I will look for a diffrent bike.
