yup.......
Im an old engineer and I ask LOTS of questions.

found a pretty good shape 2008 FE550, in fact owner still has the MSO - no title ever issued.

1. Does anyone know what is on the 08 MSO in terms of off road use only or better yet, if the VIN is in any way restrictive for off road use only? (yes Im trying to get in touch with my DOL)
2. Dual sport gear - brake switches, switch gear etc - does the KTM stuff cross over or best just to find berg stuff and run with it? If thats the case will the new 11 FE running gear work (switches etc)
3. I know these last year builds of this motor design are pretty much bricks in terms of motor etc etc. Anything that should be even looked at or listened to on a low hour machine prior to purchase?

Next open class dirt bike for me has to have a plate - period, as well as happy button and a back up kicker.

thanx in advance all knowing ones!

1) I didn't think WA had a problem with street legalizing bergs. I will try to get a hold of cheeseberger tomorrow, he lives in WA and has a few bergs plated. See if the guy will fax or scan you a copy of the MSO.

2) Dual sport stuff is easy. Depending on what requirements you need Baja Designs makes a good kit. Most of the wiring should be there already.

3) Nothing really to look at other than overall condition.

I bought a 2005 FE550 a few years ago and had no trouble getting a license for it and did not lose it when the idiots in Olympia ****** the plates from a lot of off-road bikes a couple of years ago and issued new regestrations and ORV tags - my KTM 200XC-W included. The problem, it seems, was that the MSOs for many bikes, including my '06 KTM, stated "for off-road use only". I have never heard of that being the case with Husabergs. Part of the reason for the purchase of my first Husaberg - a '96 FE501 which I bought new - was so I could license it. I had a plate on my '02 FE650 also. I don't see why you would have any problem getting a plate for the '08 model. There may be a question as to why the bike was never titled but that is really none of the state's business.

All I did was to install a brake light switch, wire a horn (did a direct lead off the battery and used a kill switch for ground), and install some fold-down mirrors. A number of years ago I did use a mulifunction handlebar switch (hi-low beam, horn) on a KTM I had a plate on. It is not all that hard to do it yourself if you understand electrical wiring. If you want turn signals, you'll need a flasher unit. Baja Designs makes a kit for Husabergs if you don't want to do it yourself. I found a source for the individual parts online http://www.procycle.us/dskits/dskit.htm. The brake light switch I used was a KTM part.

Good luck.

Check out Off Road Boss in Oregon. He has all of the dual sport stuff you need for your Berg. All quality OEM stuff.

Roger...

I called/emailed Rick, he has the stuff, my ONLY concern is Washington State...

they are licensing Nazi's.....

The current owner still has the MSO...
I just need to confirm if I pull the trigger on the bike I can get a plate on it here in Peoples RepubliK

yes, you can now as of 1 Jan license dirt bikes, ONCE you jump through hoops and honestly that policy will most likely be revoked in a few years and your title is jacked once you do it...

so
Plate out of the gate with no modifications to the title is my goal.
