2007 or 2008 550?

I went trial riding yesturday (2003 YZ 250R) and meet a guy riding a Husaberg 550 dirt bike. We BS'ed a bit and traded bikes. First off let me say that I have never liked 4-strokes, but the Berg blew me away. I couldn't believe how planted the front wheel felt and the power was really good. Anyway he is going to be selling it soon after he gets a KTM 2-stroke. So I am thinking of buying the Berg, I don't know a thing about them other than the ride was awesome. He said the bike was a 2007 however after looking at pics online I think it maybe a 2008? The things I remember that may help tell the year is that this bike had a Akrapovic slip-on (stock he said) and wave rotors front and back (Brembo calipers), it also has black rims, is that a difference in the 07 to 08?

Also, what should I look for as far as any issues with the bike? It has around 40 hours on it and has sat idle quite alot. In fact he had just cleaned out the carb and replaced the rubber boot between the cylinder and carb. It ran a bit sluggish right off the bottom, but just a little gas and it was fine. Thanks for any info!

Hey There

My 04 550 is still out there doing trips to Moab with well over 500 hours with only a cam chain replaced at about 260 hours. Change the oil often and keep the air cleaner clean.

ive just had orangeberg pull my 07 550 down to rebuild it cos i thought it was noisy, and he said it looked like a dream inside not a thing wrong with it hahahaha, and that was after 75 hours, i change oil every 2nd ride, im from australia and they seem to have more issues with them here, with chank mains, orangeberg is changing everything inside my engine as i have asked and putting his head duty mains in so then i can stop worrying that they might **** the bed.

best bike i ever ridden

I owned a 2006 550 and still have my 2007 550: great bikes. My little brother bought my 2006. Easy to maintain and a hoot to ride. It has become a buddy, if that makes any sense. Sometimes a bit tough to start at higher altitudes when hot. Next purchase is a steering damper. Cheers!

if it had black rims it should be an 08 the vin plate would be stamped 07 because of the manufacture date being well before the model release date, ask him for the engine number the first number is the model year eg 8*815*111111 its 08, 7*815*111111 its 07. 40 hrs is not much but some 550 have main bearing failure at around 60 to 70 hrs, if it has a slipon exhaust ask him if he changed the jetting as stock jetting is lean and that may be causing sluggish bottom end. If you thought it steered well wait until you ride one with a 7 litre alloy tank fitted its better again..
