2007 FE650E wont idle

HELP. I just got a new 2007 FE650E (USA Version) from the factory direct. I set it up straight out of the box and fired it up but it wont idle, and on deceleration it backfires more than it should.

I set the fuel screw to the factory spec in the manual (half a turn) and literally turned the idle wheel all the\way out (so far that the cable is eexcess - S-shaped) and nil difference. It idles ok if I hold the throttle open at about 1 cm of twist but not when I let go - instant kill.

It backfires less with the choke on but still wont idle. I then turned the fuel screw out until 2 1/2 turns but still no change, backfires a little less but again, no idle.

I drained the float bowl as there might have been old fuel in there but that didn't make a difference.

Can anyone suggest what the settings are for this "USA" version because the manual specifies all the models except the 650 USA version. I feel that the mixture is too lean. Would it be best to maybe adjust the needle position?

I would think that the bike would be ready to ride coming straight from the factory. The dealer I ordered it through in Finland said that it would have been dyno tested before preparation for dispatch.

HELP. ANXIOUS!!!

Hi Afroberg,

You say you screwed the idle screw all the out, if this is the case it won't idle, sounds like there isn't enough lift on the slide. you should be screwing it in to raise the idle speed.
Hope this helps.

Steve.

The of the needle needle has no bearing on the idle performance, just mixure screw and idle screw. If what I mentioned in my last post doesn't cure the problem whip the carb off check all the jets are stock and check for obstructions in pilot jet and the air ways in the carb body.

The pilot jet also plays a major part towards correct idle. I don't know about the 2007's, but earlier USA Husabergs with the Keihn carbs came very lean from the factory. It sounds like yours has the same problem.

Go richer on the pilot jet two steps. While your at it, check the letters on the needle. If the last three letters are DVT, it is very lean also. At least find a DVR if possible and place it in the 4th or 5th clip from top.

This will at least get you going where the bike will run. From there, you can test and find your optimum settings.

my 07 did same thing, you must richen the pilot jet, bigger #, that will fix you right up, I also richened the needle on mine, it now is insane power

Hi Afroberg,

What alterations did you make to make it perform good.

One question I have how come you can spend all this money and the factory can't get a simple thing right like jetting the carb correctly.

Sherco did the same thing with there 4t but this jetting was grossly out. I dynoed one and brought out a revised jet kit and coil.

What altitude are you at because this has a big bearing on carburation say if you were down south africa at 6 to 8 thousand feet you would have to run very lean jets plus the output power drops off considerably.

Regards

Steve.
