Hey was having trouble getting my bike to start as it has been sitting for 2 years. Was gonna pull the carb to get it cleaned but looks like the engine needs to come out. Is there an easier way to get that thing out.

Take the seat and tank off.

Then the starter. Disconnect the battery cables. Remove the 4 allen bolts for the starter and starter bracket. Remove the starter bracket first. Rock the starter side to side and pull it out. This will give you enough room to remove the carb. Its still a tight fit but doable.

Be sure to disconnect the fuel lines, unplug the TPS and mark the throttle cables before you remove them. I use a colored Sharpie and color one cable end and where it attaches to the carb. This way assembly will go faster as you won't be guessing which cable goes where.

While the carb is off I like to clean the boots, spray them heavily with Aerospace 303 protectant https://www.amazon.com/303-30350-Aerospace-Protectant-32oz/dp/B0000BYMNQ and toss them in a zip lock bag while I am working on the carb. Wipe them off just before reassembly.

A tool like this one https://www.amazon.com/Removal-Remover-Puller-Radiator-VASTOOLS/dp/B09HKFKG1H/ref=sr_1_3?crid=105X8C12ZMINC&keywords=radiator+hose+tool&qid=1643062305&sprefix=radiator+hose+tool%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-3 is helpful to get the rear boot back on.

Drain the carb if the bike is going to sit for more than a few weeks. Otherwise you will become the resident expert at carb removal and pilot jet cleaning.

You may want to purchase a new pilot jet just this one time as the orifice is super small and difficult to unblock. The problem is that it is difficult to find something small enough to poke through. I like to soak it in lacquer thinner and then blow it out with compressed air. An cheap ultrasonic cleaner https://www.amazon.com/Ultrasonic-Cleaner-Cleaning-Injectors-Professional/dp/B08GC6HF3P/ref=sr_1_4?crid=EYUOT4FNWISG&keywords=ultrasonic%2Bcleaner&qid=1643063259&sprefix=ultrasonic%2Caps%2C140&sr=8-4&th=1 is nice to have around too.

Fantastic. Thanks for the help. Sadly this bike hardly gets used but I will start draining the carb. Really appreciate the links.

Thanks again.
