Hi Guys, Had my bike for a while now and figure it's time to spend some dollars on some correctly sorted suspension. On a good day I might make the grade as an 'average Joe' but I certainly ain't no pro. I'm 6'4" and probably 115-120kg fully loaded and ride all sorts of conditions.

I've done as much trawling and info gathering as I can possibly imagine but just wanted to ask for some opinions or experiences from any of you fellas who can spare a minute or two.

I think I'd like to try a progressively wound spring which is rated at 9.5 - 12.5kg/mm and .54kg/mm fork springs as well as having both ends serviced.

Any of you guys tried running such a set-up and does that sound a reasonable set-up for someone of my build/ability? Any feedback or other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

In my 07 FE650, the same as yours, I'm running a 9.6 SR up back and 0.46s up front and valved to suit. I'm 6'3" and 112kg geared to go.

I consider my talents as average too. I got a couple of trophies years ago, and there is always someone faster than me, and someone slower.

I reckon what you are suggesting might be OK for SX, but over the top for trail use. Valving to suit is critical, by someone who knows what they are doing.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the info and for taking the time to reply I do appreciate that. As far as the valving is concerned I have just spoken to the guy who I think will be likely to be handling any of that side of things for me and I'm confident he will be able to deal to those issues if and when they arise. I will be having the suspension serviced 1st but the guy reckoned as I'm buying springs anyhow I should try it with my spring selection 1st of all - which I am purchasing from elsewhere - and then make any changes based on that.

As far as spring selection is concerned I'm looking at a 2006 spring chart and the way I read it it gives the range covered by each of the 3 available (at the time) rear springs. 60-70kg = 76/250, 70-80kg = 80/250, 80-90kg = 84/250 and thats where it stops. I figured if I followed that process I would end up with a (straight) spring rate of 100/250 and that was how I ended up thinking 9.5 - 12.5kg for a progressive but your right that is too much thinking about it again so I'm going to ease back to 110kg settings for now.

.52 front springs and 8.9/11.4 rear.

Thanks again
Cheers
Graeme
