Has anyone had experience with the 06 then 07 bergs to say if the 07 is in anyway noticabley better or different. Suspension, counter balancer etc????

Suspensions are definitively better for the 07 model (FE version). The 06 model and before need a suspension modification to be confortable and smooth, it isn't the situation for the 07.

ok that sounds like a worth while advantage of the 07. The brochure says the 07 has a one peice counter balancer.... and many small motor changes. I wonder if that is an important change for reliablility?

yes it is a major change. the old one was never 100% reliable but this one should cure it.

i will tell you what i know ...

you can't buy the bearings for the counter balancer from husaberg anymore , you have to buy the complete unit . so my dealer told me .

so i would say that the 07 counter balancer will fit the 04 and onwards bergs .

can anybody confirm my speculation ?

As a buyer, you are looking at the dollar diff between the two model years, and if that monetary trade off nets your performance or reliability issues. The balancer should not be discussed as an issue of reliability. There have been no issues with the balancer since the 01/02 grenade, so don't worry that the upgrade is not worth making the decision over. :)

I just picked up a 07 550 SM Berg here in Manitoba, I could of had a 06 650 SM for a few dollars more. Part of the reason I went 07 was that the crank and end bearings are supposed to better in 07, everyone that I talked to who had ever had anything to do with Husabergs told me that they are great bikes but can be a problematic...so I went for the one which has the most up dates done to it, the 07. I ride around 3000km per summer in the city and I'm hoping the bike will go 2 summers before it needs a rebuild.

well I have had 05, 06 and now 07 Bergs, and the 07 is better for sure, but no great differences when you ride, as they are all fab bikes. Every manufacturer updates supsension etc every year, based on factory specs usually, but the improvements for the Bergs internally are a huge benefit. The main bearings being the biggest improvement, as the older models had roller bearings that were prone to failure if not "perfectly" set up. By this I mean the end float, which due to crank flex, was very critical when giving her a lot of stick for a long time. The crank would flex and side laod the bearing. The new design has a ball bearing upgrade, which I was lucky to get installed in my 06 from the factory. I did 156hrs on it with no fault, and no visible wear when we stripped her down before selling it to Wal (wildman). It was stripped down to replace the counterbalancer/waterpump shaft, which has been upgraded on the 07 model as well. Add the billet tripleclamps, external preload adjusters and a few other upgrades, and you'd be mad not to go for the 07. regards Staino

My 05 650 just got rebuilt and i got the mains from husaberg they were still roller bearings

The OEM main bearings for the 05-07 models are all the same part number (nj series rollers) re: the parts book. The change to the 07 fe/fc 550 was to the crankcases as they are said to be improved in the main bearing area.
Having said that I have heard that this beefed up set of 07 cases does allow for a possibly wider and improved ball bearing upgrade from the 6206c3 ball bearings sometimes used in place of the rollers.

I had a chance to ride the 07 550FE and the 07 450FE on the force ride.I thought the forks were a stand out compared to the o6. I'm a fairly aggressive rider and have not had any problems with the 06 engine and the 07 felt and ran pretty much the same.
Also thought the graphics were much improved. With the small refinements and the new fork the 07 is a standout!

I recently bought a 550FE, wich has the WP Six Days Extreme suspension... it is in all way good and i like it a lot better than the suspension on the 450 06 Berg i tried out prior to buying the one i have now :)
