2006 FE550E Reliable?

I have the opportunity to pick up a brand new 2006 FE550E for a really good price, I currently own a 2002 FE501E which with the exception of two SEM failures has been a good bike, so I am used to the Husaberg maintenance drill.

Here lies the dilemma: I am one of those guys who intends on buying a 2009 Husaberg, probably not the first wave, which means 18 months from now. My 2002 is getting a little long in the tooth, I've replaced rockers/shafts once (didn't really need them) but other than that it hasn't required any engine work..... yet. So my gut is telling me I can pick up this 2006 FE550E, sell my 2002 FE501E and only spend a little more than I'm going to need to dump into the 2002 to keep it going another 18 months. This plan of course would fail if 2006 FE550Es where problematic.

Opinions?

the short answer is a BIG-NO! I have not heard of a single 06 with an issue. the Dirt rider long haul was an 06 i believe, and they abused it and it was running strong at the end. just some water pump seal issues, which are a cheap fix when (if) needed.

buy it and enjoy!

time for my humble opinion

hey ... that 2002 version sounds reliable , and you know where it's at . in other words you know it's mechanical status , i would keep the 02 .

yep ... and go for the 09 version [ like me ]

now.. if you were not going for the 09 ... i would say grab the 06 , but you are going for the 09 so keep the 02 .

confused ?

Go the '06 I say. Grab it now with the intention of getting rid of it when the '10 model comes out. You'll have a wickid new bike to ride until then when it only gets better.

Win/Win I reckon

Keep the '02, buy the '06, and wait till the '10 comes out as well, lets face it older Bergs dont fetch much, so keep a spare, start selling when you get the third one.

I told my wife that when its time and feasable to upgrade, Ill get 'another bike' not a 'replacement bike'

Azza.
