I have a 2006 650 and am going to replace the battery. I'm amazed at how tight the thing is stuffed in there! Is there an easy way to get this out? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Pull the 2 bolts on the starter. Pull the starter straight out and swing it aside. That should give you enough room to work.

I unbolt upper bolt of shock apsorber and than take it out betwenn shock and frame at rear side.

10 min job? Heh, I consider myself a slow worker in the garage, but man, I thought this was a huge hassle. Just getting a ratchet on some of the bolts can take more than 10 min!
I did the remove mudguard, unbolt shock, remove a few other things version, and hope this new battery lasts a loong time.

It's a good thing this bike is a ton of fun!

Yeah it's a hard spot to get too, try taking engine out next time as the battery will come out with it

I do as kli does. Seems to be the easiest way? I need to try and remove the starter motor for comparison. :)

It is possible to remove the battery without removing the shock or starter motor but I'll leave that one for people with small hands and lots of patience...
