So, my buddy can’t find the bill of sale from when he bought this bike (super disappointed about it). We’re just going to make a new on which is simple but we can’t find the VIN. It’s not on the typical forks or frame. There’s an info plate which doesn’t have it & a stamp on the frame as you can see in the pix. Which one is it or am I looking at the wrong place? Where would it be if not here? Thanks in advance.

You can just see the bottom of the vin on my old 2005 in the lower left of the photo.

Interesting that my bikes decal designates it as 644cc vs 625 in your photo. My dealer told me it was a leftover model built late in the year that was designated for Europe. He got like 6 of these 650’s and 550’s that had all the street legal stuff on them. It also came with the ‘06 head pipe and kickstarted.

Yeah, that is strange. You think it’s because of the 06 heads on yours? That shouldn’t have anything to do with displacement though. I’m sad mine is less lol. There is so much to learn about these bikes.

Is the VIN just a sticker? Looks like mine is missing. Luckily I tracked down the original owner & he has the registration & insurance with VIN on it.

it is always stamped on the frame vertically on the right hand side.

It’s stamped? I’m assuming the front of the frame close to the forks?

Vertically on the head tube in between the bearings, on a raised rectangular boss. We need more pictures of the this area...

As the others said, it’s stamped-usually with a strip of protective plastic over it, on the steering head. That’s the way all of my KTM products have been at least.

I’m pretty certain mine was 628cc, like all the ‘05 and up bikes. They’re plenty powerful!

I am trying to get my 2002 FE650e registered in California. Does anyone now if a 2002 has a sticker like the ones shown previously in this thread and if so where it might be? I pulled the tank and cannot find it anywhere.

by their nature, stickers fall off. you could also have had a VIN plate but again, they come unstuck.

Even though my bike is street legal in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Florida it does not appear that California will give me a license plate unless I have a federal emissions sticker. I have the local KTM dealer checking to see if I can get one from the factory. Anyone have an idea where I can a stocked for a 2002 FE650e?

my '04 450 had an out of state title that i needed to register in az several years ago and that sticker was illegible due to power washing. all az wanted was for the bike to go thru a more stringent inspection (read: additional $20), and all was well.

I don't know if this helps but I traded a Moto Guzzi to a good friend who lives in Ca for his 570 a couple years back. Part of the deal was that I meet him In Ca at the DMV where it needed to get a plate or no deal. Smart on his part.

The Guzzi was a "49 state" vehicle out of Vegas and it didn't have an emission sticker at all. They were VERY uncooperative when I explained the original sticker was apparently under the seat, which the PO had swapped out.

It almost didn't happen, but I found a clause in one of their forms that said an out of state motorcycle (maybe any vehicle) over 10 years old didn't need the sticker. Eventually they begrudgingly blessed the sale and gave him a plate.;)
