2005 FS650E oil leak.... not breather... pics help please

Hey guys,

So I have been having an issue with oil leaking off my 2005 FS650E (I KNOW THIS ISSUE COMES UP A LOT) and I originally thought it was the breather.

I went for a ride today after changing the oil and adjusting the level (I thought it was too high) and I lost A LOT on a 45 minute ride.

So I finally teared the bike down to take a look.

The breather is new, not cracked and dry, no oil on it what so ever. The air box as well is not anything out of the ordinary.

So is this coming from top end gaskets? I have heard its possibly the rocker inspection covers?

Any info would help. Thanks

Rocker inspection covers can warp when tightened to hard, if they are leaking changing the gasket might work.

lay the rocker inspection covers on a surface plate or a mirror. if they rock then stick half in the vice and whack the top half with a copper hammer. don't hit it too hard, just build it up till it gives and is flat. use new gaskets as said above.

the breather spigots come undone. fit something snug in first and then use grips to tighten.

you are using yamabond and it isn't good enough. the only stuff I have found to work is
WURTH SEBASTO RTV SILICON SEALANT.

check if the cover is warped as well, check if it rocks on the cam bearings and end cap?

Once again, good info. My 01 leaks as well. She always looks like a dirty girl ...This is a planned fix for winter tear down.

Where would I pick up that sealant? Just at a dealer? Going to pull the rocker covers off tonight, will update.

Thanks for the detailed reply

we can no longer fly that stuff out as it is an aerosol based product (9-11 and all that!).

you'll have to find it on ebay internally in your country etc

if you ar in the usa, go to a chrysler dealer, buy a tube of 3-bond engine sealant for the new 3.6 engine.....
it comes in a small tube that requires the use of a caulk gun to get it out, i think it cost 10$ and is the worlds best sealant imo.....

I always had leaking issues from the valve cover caps/rock cover untill i sealed it with this stuff..........

Not in the USA....

Going to see what I can pick up for a good sealant.

Going to the Husa shop tomorrow to see what they have in for gaskets and pick up some oil.

Been thinking about just doing a total top end on it..... the bike has 255 hours, and around 164500 kms....

What do you guys think?

If I did a top end:

ignore the rocker shafts and rocker bushes - they'll be 100% good.
ignore the exhaust valves and all the valve seals as they'll all be good.

look to the auto decomp spring, drag the decomp under and it must 'bang' up on release. I do a stronger spring for them for 6gbp.
look at the inlet valves, they'll be ll out of shape at the seats and if real bad that means the seats need a kiss.
would go to DVSK for quieter running and softer action on those inlets next time round. I do a kit for 105gbgp.

So I have some updates....

I found the source of my leak... its the gasket (which apparently is only liquid gasket) right below the valve adjusters...

To remove the whole top I just undo all the top bolts and disconnect breather/cable?
I also noticed that I have oil running out of a little hole next to the water pump..... Which I thought was for the cooling system. I checked my oil and it has no coolant in it and my coolant has no oil in it.... Any idea what that would be? Here is a photo of the little hole

Getting tired of this oil leak.....

Re: 2005 FS650E oil leak.... not breather... pics help pleas

get on with it.

best advice is to order a new water pump seal and the polymide bearing at the back. also the O ring that fits on the intermediate shaft. when I first started we used to recommend removing the spring from the ADC as we thought that that might click on a few places while the shaft had no support.

Had a go at my oil leak issues. Mine WAS the front inspection cover. Used a sheet of glass and some sandpaper to true it up. Also did the air pump check valve mod and frame vent block off. No leaks, no oil running down the front of motor, no smoke! Excellent!
Thanks Taffy
