2005 fs650 - starting problem

Hi there just looking for some advice on my Berg - I own an 05 fs650 which has played up during the last ride. As always the bike started first hit of the button and rode superb.. 10 mins into it i roll up to a stop sign and it stalls. I then got it started again but had to use the throttle and noticed the bike sounded different and was bogging badly at low rev.... above 1/4 or more throttle and it ran sweet as always. I immediately thought blocked pilot or carbie issue and stripped it all down, emptied out fuel and checked all air, spark and fuel - no signs of leaks etc. I have not owned the bike long and not sure when the last valve clearance was done. What else could cause this ?
Any advice is much appreciated

Cheers

Benny

This almost sounds like an ignition problem. I had a similar experience 30+ years ago when the ignition failed on my IT400 Yamaha and it advanced itself. The bike would hardly idle and ran very rough. Perhaps the flywheel key sheared on your bike and the timing is off. That is where I'd look first.

Check the valves and have a good look at the valve springs. Funny, there was just another post inquiring about broken valve springs. You might swap a fresh plug into it while your at it.

Thanks for the replies. The bike will only start with 1/4 throttle and is running rough and won't idle. I am going to get the valve clearances checked but am trying to work out how I can check the electricals such as stator, cdi etc and cross them off the list.... The plug is brand new and gapped, got a strong spark... If a valve spring is knackered does it make a particular noise ? At low rev it kinda sounds like putting your hand over exhaust... Bogging badly but above half throttle it was running normal...

check the doc for info on ignition timing. the white line of the stator should be about 1mm to the left of centre when looking through the port hole in the ignition cover.
