Greetings all. I'm a newbie here and an admirer of the Berg since day one...albeit from a distance until hearing about new found reliability, warrenty, etc! I posted this at Thumpertalk but wouldn't mind running it past an enthusiast audience.

Regards, Dave

<< I have a chance at a very clean FE650E with very little use...still with warranty on it. I would like to replace my current WR400 and dualsported XR650r with it. Use will be everything from tight eastern type woods to fast open forest and cottage roads. I'm a large experienced rider and not looking to be talked into a 450, etc., which I agree might be better for many riders.

I very high performance bike I know, but I'm still nervous about durability and reliability. I don't mind a little more maintenance but I don't want it breaking despite that. Are there still any known failures, quirks or other items I should be looking at with this 2005 machine? Is the (lower revving?) 650 a little more durable then the 450/550's or same difference? Sorry it this has been asked before but I would appreciate any feedback or experience here.>>

Regards, Dave

I guess no news is good news?
Or is it "if you can't find anything good to say...."?

I love my new 06 FE650 !

Light weight , great features !

And the Akrapovic exhaust fits better and is lighter !

In response, I have a '05 FS650C (motard version) I'm also an "experienced" rider and tip the scales @ 230 LBS. Mine is still fairly new, (6 HRS on bike) But so far so good. It will yank your arms outta the sockets, revs qoickly (for a big single) and does everything better than similar/comparable machines (we know NOTHING REALLY copares to a 'Berg though!) Stay on top of the maint. issues (valves, oil etc.) and ride that bad boy!

Thanks Rocky, that's basically what I was expecting and hoping for. Just as long as the reliability has come around enough that I'm not kicking my a$$ a few months down the road! Everything else does sound awesome.

i was apprehensive at first after owning many jap bikes . i have had my 04 650 e for 12 months and it is great . it has character , pin point steering , honestly more power than i can use . husabergs are special but they are a full on competition bike and must be maintained or else.

The FE650 is not the best for tight woods, but it can be made to work. Overheating will be an issue in the tight stuff in the summer, but there are a few things you can do for that.
As long as you are not in the real tight stuff the 650 is a real kick in the pants.

i am interested to know what the ' few things are ' in regards to heat in the tight stuff for the mighty 650 .

I would consider installing 06 plastics and the 06 cooling fan kit. You will have to rig your own switch for the fan. I am considering doing this on my 04, I do not have all of the particulars but assume it should work. I have mounted computer cooling fans to my 04 (see my gallery). If boil overs are an issue I would (and do) run Evans coolant. It has a 370F boil point at zero PSI. Last placing a 14 tooth countershaft sprocket helped dramatically. It allows the motor to turn faster at lower speeds thus increasing coolant flow. As alway's proper jetting helps as well, I run a Lineaweaver jet kit with a 165 main.
So far these combo's have worked for me. Right now it is winter and all is well. The proof will be in the summer when the ambient temp is over 100F by 10am.

Bought mine May of last year, about 60 hours on it & I haven't had any overheating problems. I'm sure if I abused it at super slow speeds it would cause a problem, but so far it's been a great bike. Changed oil & checked valve adj. only so far.

Bring it on over to the Phoenix ride Feb 1-5 and we will see how she fairs

An old fart like me would probably just slow you guys down. I'd be left out there for the critters to chomp on. :D

The replies you have received on overheating in the slow and tight stuff should be taken seriously. My 05 FE550E with 14/52 gearing, evans coolant and some computer fans is just starting to approach hassal free in the HVAC department. The '06 tank and fan will probably be the shortest path for a cool running engine. Best of luck with the new wheels.

05 FE 650e is an awesome bike...reliable...fan kit a great idea. As a Husaberg Dealer, our 650 demo keeps on going after all kinds of different skill levels have ridden it. KEEP IN MIND...Unless the bike is a registered Demo (meaning a bike that a dealer has purchased specifically for a demo purpose) a Used FE650e warranty will not be transferable (thats what we have been told by our rep). As an example, we have an 06 FE450e that is a demo bike that is now available for sale...it only has 9.2 hours on it, however, as a demo, the customer will get a better buy on a new bike that is just now broken in and will still get a 1 year warranty once they purchase the bike). 450 for the woods, 650 for the desert and the 550 if you do both...you cant go wrong though with either size no matter where your riding.

Hope you went with the berg

I’ve owned my 2005 since new and you would have a hard time finding a better bike. I’m 315lbs at times 325lbs and this bike stock has suspension enough for relatively aggressive desert riding as well as tight trails. Power is amazing it snaps on as fast as you can twist the throttle. I find this bike more nimble than most bikes half its size. It don’t like idling so much and it tends to overheat if you’re doing big group rides where you’re sitting waiting for people to catch up. When that’s the case I always shut it off to avoid overheating. I did add a bigger rear spring after 8 years running the stock set up. Tires are the hugest expense as you can expect to need a tire after every 4 tanks of fuel. I replace the battery each season. Hope you got the bike and are enjoying it.
