Hello. I am considering buying a good condition second hand '05 Fe550e. Can you guys help me with any problems this year bike is prone to and any input from some owners out there regarding the good and the bad with them would be great. Thanks in advance.Scooter....

as we are aware the bikes have become bullet-proof. there was a mains scare in which the crank was considered to sit in the cases a little too tightly but they either went wrong and made a whiny noise as a warning (if you were lucky) or they were done by the owners.

in the UK, DCR had every single one to bits so they're all gauranteed to be 100% here. are you from the uk? infact where are you from!

regards

Taffy

Mine has been trouble free so far.The valves are easy to set but rarely require it.The air filter is small but doesn't get dirty at anywhere near the rate of my past KTM's.My favorite aspect of the bike, though it may seem minor,is the adjuatability of the bike.In my strretbike days,I always had to adjust the rear brake pedal down as due to my body construction,my toes hang down when sitting or standing on the bikes.Previous dirt bikes I had to ride with my right foot off to the side to avoid dragging the brake but the berg has an eccentric pedal height adjustment. It may seem a small thing but it's huge to me.Of course, the levers are all adjustable as well, and bar position and so on.It's an easy bike to get comfortable on when you have the ability to adjust everything to suit yourself. The susension is far superior and will tolerate a larger range of adjustment with no adverse effects elsewhere IMO than my KTMs including my revalved SX.It handles good and has a very light feeling front end compared to any other four stroke I've ridden.(WR,CRF,CRF-X,KTM)On the downside,it has an uncanny ability to generate brown streaks in your undies at times when you get carried away 8O :D

Hey Scooter,

I/ve had my FE550 for 2500kms now, riding is an every second weekend thing (married with daughter + 1 on the way) - but I make sure that the air filter is done regularly and valves are adjusted, fresh oil every 500km or before and oil filter every second oil change, and things are all good.

Beautiful bike man, once you get on one you be hooked for sure!

Azza.

your maintenance doesnt seem not unlike mine Azza and we all know where i am at.

We have a 2005 FE650 and it runs amazing with no problems. over 2000 miles, 80 hours, lots of compression and no weird noises...as long as you maintain the bike (oil and filter changes often and check those valves) you should have no issues. 05s are great bikes.
