I have an opportunity to get my grubby little paws on a new '05 FC 550 (substantially discounted compared to '07 FE 550). I would like to know if anybody out there owns a 05 FC 550 and what their thoughts are - I want to use it for a wide range of activities and not necessarily as a MX bike.

Comments please

The FC550 has perhaps the largest grin factor of any of the Bergs as long as you dont mind a kickstart only bike. The bike is brutally fast (even by Husaberg standards). The suspension will probably need some massaging, especially for trail riding.
If the price is right, it's a hard bike to say no to.

FC 550

I have had the chance to ride most of the new bikes and let me tell you the 550 stands up tall to anything on the market.
My 05 FC 550 has the 6 speed installed and Dicks racing front and back with great results.
You can get away with 15x47 gearing if you do not want to spend the money on the 6 speed. I love the power and reliability of my 550! I use it for all kinds of racing as it must be the best cross over bike ever made once you install the 6 speed.
The starting is so easy a big guy could do it with his hand. The bike always starts by the second kick. Run the idle a little high on these bikes and they never stall.
It does not get any better if you ask me?
The forks are the best thing to get done first as the back works very well.
210 lbs with 4.8 up front and 8.8 in back.
Good luck

great bike, but where are you and what sort of dirt, areas are you riding? I have to agree with Mark, the cross over potential is huge with this bike once the 6 speed is installed.

I am in South Africa - KTM SA got some bikes from the Husaberg Factory - incl 2 x New 2005 FC 550's (6 speed and electric start). We have got any type of dirt you can think of. My one concern was gearing - any issues there ?

If it has electric start it's not an FC. If possible, you really want a six speed.

15 x 48 or 50

With the 6 speed the gearing listed can just about do anything you need including moto.
My bike is used in Worcs,Desert,GPs,Moto and even some Enduro with that gearing.
If they have the e-start and 6 speed you have a bike that has more power than anybody else on the track. Just hit the weights as this bike can tire you a little more than a 450.
You can even get a small or large tank now if you want to? You need to get back to us after you get it set up and tell us how you like it. We have money on it that you are going to say the same things we do.
This bike is developing a cult following like the people that have KTM 300s it seems.
I have one of those also so it is covered at my house!
You will love this bike after you get 10 or so hours on it as it gets much faster after that.
