I need to buy new front and rear sprockets for a 2004 fe 450...not sure what the stock combo is and also anybody know a good place to buy them?

iirc correctly the front was a 14 and i immediately changed it to a 13. the rear was 48.

Also will any sprocket work or are their specific sprockets that will only fit certain bikes?

Sprockets are bike specific... In the owners docs it says a husky 2t countershaft sprocket will fit. I tryed, it works. Back sprockets , ktm 4t or husaberg. Lots of aftermarket but ironman sprockets, although pricey, last and they now have a 1 year warranty .

depends what riding you're doing but I'd say 13 x 48 is the tallest you want off-road. 13 x 50 in ****** going and if racing in the tight I'd go 13 x 52. by then your defo on a 116L chain in the middle.

until you get a set of 20mm offsets and then you can go back to 13 x 50 again or even 13 x 48. with the 22s they won't turn hard at any kind of fast pace.

What about the FE550?
I have 14-48 enduro and 15-40 supermoto, seems ok to me

Not even close.Just a 40-something recreational rider.
But that is not the answer to my question.Would a 13-48 be wise on a 550?

I am running 14-48 also on my 550 enduro, runs good.. 550s torque can handle it easy
