2004 FE650 Jetting for Southern Colorado

I plan to ride in So. Colorado in July with a buddy. We will be hitting a few mountain passes. A few years ago I was near Frazier CO and the jetting was way too rich. Does anyone have recommendations?

I am currently at about 1000 ft. in TX with the following settings:

Carb: FCR 41, main: 160, slow jet: 85, pilot jet: 48, Needle clip 4th slot from top (7 total). ( Could not find Needle code) Air screw: 2 turns out from seated.

It doesn't need to be spot on, but reasonably crisp. I will only be running it a few days at this altitude. BTW, what a pain to get to the carb for adjustments!!

Thanks for the clarification on the choke jet and the existing settings.

I'll change the pilot jet to see if that improves the situation.

The bike has the extended pilot screw, but I have never changed it. Is this an adjustment I would need to make as altitude increased? In or out?

As I said, I plan to change the pj to 42. I understand that my 48 is too large.

I am willing to change the pilot screw setting. I was just making a comment that I never have changed it from it's original setting. Is the pilot screw an adjustment that needs to be changed as the altitude increases?

In other words, if I change the pj to 42, are there any other setting changes I can make, either at sea level or at altitude, that will improve performance. and specifically, will changing the extended pilot screw setting as the altitude increases help?

Last summer I had to rebuild the carb due to leaking fuel and general neglect. While I had it apart I documented the jets and settings. However, I could not find a needle code anywhere and do not remember a color code. I bought the bike used and the previous owner may have jetted. Someone mentioned that Lineweaver(?) may have had a needle with no markings. I have no idea about that.

Any suggestions as to the fastest, easiest way to get access to the jet for a swap?

I might need to get your cell number! I could find out how a 650 is supposed to run and you could tell me what is wrong with mine. We will be getting lost in the same general area around 7/15 - ? My riding buddy lives in Boulder and knows the area. I am in TX and looking for some cooler weather and change of scenery.

Your guess is as good as mine. I don't remember any grind marks, but I don't remember a lot of things.
