Ive got my eyes on a very low mileage 2004 FE550...

so
my questions...
did Berg get the warts out of the top end by 04?
cam
Cam bearings
Stator
E start strength
Valves

Etc?

anything to look at or for?

I had an 01 FX650...so as much as I love the Viking Steel, I do know the issues they had in 01-02 etc.

I have had 2 husaberg 04 FE550s , they have been great, one i still ride, first one 8800km, 185hrs no problems, mainly raced that one. wished i kept it now.

Picked up a second one , i imagine it has 350-400 hrs on it now, same deal , great bike, no issues, some say to replace cam followers bearing at 150-60 hrs which i did,and cam bearings they still all looked fine though, cam chain , main bearings have been replaced, nothing was wrong with them , just replaced a few items as precautionary measure on this one. The bike is higher geared, so it does not get the crapper reved out of it to much , so it should have a good life. i pulled the kick start lever off it , it gets in the way when your trying to find the choke! Easy starter, A couple of sets of wheels bearings, steering head bearings , swing arm bearing , i have been through , all standard stuff, I am pretty hard on the equipment though. Cam seems fine , no problems there either. Electrics , stator , ignition ,starter motor no problems ,all good. havent touched the valves , sometimes check clearences but not much. the carbis are great , I dont touch that either.
Keep regular oil changes and it should be fine.
Replaced the battery the other day ,6 years out of it.

I find it handles well , turns very nice when set up good, in its "sweet spot".
Plenty off the bottom and mid power, great bike.

Get it. I sold my 2004 Fe550 with almost 11,000 miles on it and I had only put a cam chain in it. It finally broke a valve spring at 16,000 miles plus, I sold it to my buddy. I've put over 25,000 miles on 5 04-08 Bergs and never had any engine failures.

ps I'm in Bellevue.

yes they're excellent. all I ever had to do was strengthen the ADC spring which is set weak out the gate.
