Cheers everybody!

I need a bit of advice concerning my friends 'Berg.

Here's the story, my friend is not the first owner and when he bought the bike, it came with this strange hose coming from the engine vent (the vent had a hole and the hose was glued to the vent) to the right of the cases...
As the rubber parts were in a pretty bad shape he got a new vent and I assembled it today....

The bike started no problems, but after few seconds I heard a hissing sound and killed the engine. Oil and air was coming out through the oil cap....no biggie, I thought I forgot to screw it in properly, new o-ring and back it goes...

Started it again, worked fine for 10-15 sec's and all of a sudden it died. I step off, look around, and something pop's pretty loud...it scared me quite a bit 8O ....fuel off, onto the stand, a couple steps back....tank off...and I found that the vent came off from the sleeve on the frame...

Sooo, I suspect the engine is not venting properly and my first guess would be that something is wrong with the oil pressure relief valve..or the vent assembly itself...?? Any input is welcome...

Here are some pics:

Old vent with the added hose:

New vent popped off:

This is how oil looks (maybe not directly related but it seemed odd to me...):

Thanks!

out of curiousity, where did the glued-on hose go?
i am going to guess that the po blocked off the small pipe inside the large breather connector. pull off the breather hose ("engine vent") and look or poke a screwdriver up in that hole and clear it out. with the air filter off, whatever is plugging the hole will fall down the frame and then you can remove it.

Ned, thanks for your response.....and yes you are right...the PO blocked the small pipe....since posting this I have found the problem. the hose ran down the radiator, next to the coolant overflow hose...
He has put a plug that was not visible until i poked my finger inside...

Would you take a guess why the PO did that? And why the oil has bubbles in it?

Thanks again...a great guess!

'cause he/she was an ***** (i'm guessing they flipped it and got the smokescreen once - right json?)
And why the oil has bubbles in it?
it's normal- it's flying all over the inside of the engine being slung off all the moving parts. just like being in a blender.

Although I imagine most people would cringe at seeing their name included in the same sentence as the word *****, in this case it's entirely appropriate.

PO probably figured it would resolve the mosquito fogger issue the bike has when flipped with non-modified vent system but didn't do even the most minimal of research, since an easier and better fix has been on the web since the bike was first sold.

thanks,
json

Maybe the PO was often upside down and got sick of killing mosquito's....

Anyway...that seems as only logical explanation...and I may be called an ***** as well for not noticing the stupid cap on the vent...

Thanks guys...and one more question, just out of curiosity, can you point me to the easier and better fix you are talking about?

Cheers!

The most common mod is to remove the horn tube completely, cap or block off the large opening(many people use rubber sheet, like tube), then connect a length of tube to the rocker bung, drape it over the frame and terminate it with a filter(something like a KN vc element).

I know there are some pics around but I'm working off of a teensy phone :)
