Soooooo riding yesterday, had just done 50ish klm in the bush and was on my way home on tarmac when the big girl decided to die.roll started it as i was on a down hill and blew a shitload of whiteish blue smoke,so shut it off and trailered it the rest of the way home where i found a decent amount of oil in the air box.thought it may of gotten there from playing around on some big hills and laying the bike over a couple of times.anyways i have pulled everything apart and cleaned the oil out of everything and put back together.ran it stationary for about 15 minutes with a few stop and starts with the airfilter off so i could see.it did start to run ok and was not blowing smoke then at about the 15 min mark just dumped a heap of oil up the beather into the airbox and blowing heap of smoke again.oil level has been the same everytime i service it,at the bottom of the sight glass when cold.before the ride i changed oil and filter.presuming the rings are gone and getting blow by but just chasing some opinions.will be compression testing this week

No Jerry, not in my honest opinion.

YOUR PISTON HAS GONE.

it has started to rock sufficiently off centre, enough to let the crankcase over pressure and shove all the oil up the top.

Thought thats what it would be,any idea on what i will be needing to repair it?or how much $$ ill be looking at.will be doing the work my self so just need an idea on price of parts.

get a new piston
assess the liner
new roller mains by KTM - don't scrimp
always a new HG
the bearing behind the water pump seal we call the 'polyamide'.
check the inner bearing on the same shaft
camchain
possibly balancer bearings
IMHO, 2 new exhausts and DVSK for safety. don't get the Kibblewhites. While Bushie and I may argue, if he's had valve bouince on a 650, there's no way the 450 is safe. so go with my DVSK or KTMs. obviously, I'd like the business BUT........ha-ha!
all the seals are good in a Husaberg.
new inlets
cut all 4 seats
gearbox and clutch will be good.

the aftermarket mods for that model are:
upgrade the CCTB
our stronger ADC spring
DVSK (as said)
SRK (starter repair kit)
we also lower the compression, if your not on the highways but doing nadgery riding. we take 1mm off the top of the piston - far better bike!

watch the cam bearings for losing their grease but looking "OK" when they're not.
remove the baby nut n bolt that stop the decomp is they can snap.

I've just started doing an aftermarket SKF roller main bearing that is very high spec and saves a coin! it's like virtually the same as the SKF from KTM but just over half the price.

oh and look for cupped tappet pads...out them if they have gone because square tipped valves deserve flat tappet pads...

I look forward to helping you further!!!!!

Taffy
