Hello fellow bergers

Jerry here from the hunter valley in NSW australia

Not long ago got on a 2004 fe 450,love it so far.The bike has an aftermarket speedo on it with 2900klm on it(I have the original husaberg speedo but its broken, although it still looks like new) but im guesing the bike does not have many original klms or hours on it as the frame paintwork is immaculate all over, the plastics do not have a mark or scratch on them nor do the stickers, original hand grips I think, stil has the warning stickers on the rear guard and handle bars.even the mirrors are still like new.when I got it had a 15t front sprocket and 48t rear.have put 14t on the front since.changed oil and filter and cleaned the screen the day I got it as well as check valve clearences and have done water pump seal and oring, kickstart shaft seal, gear selector shaft seal.starts first kick every time with out a problem and has plenty of compression.im pretty fussy with my bikes when it comes to servicing and preventative maintenance.i ride about 3klm on road from home to the bush so I do very little on road riding.Im pretty happy that at this stage I think got onto a good thing. Can anyone confirm how happy this bike will make me in the future.Just trying to find any info, opinions and pros&cons on the bike or stuff to keep an eye on

nice bike, all you need in life, easy to work on yourself. no real problems. they upgraded the clutch drum, the cam chain tensioner blade. the big end feed was moved over and doesn't align when fitting a new big end pin. they were known to break as part of that mistake.

the jetting is ify and jolts. the auto decomp spring is weak. the starter gears can slip due to the ADC being weak so a little kit saves them.

mains and big end are good. clutch and gearbox are totally reliable.

Keep making the bike happy and the bike will make you happy. Being fussy about your bike is never a bad thing. Some members here have bikes that have gone far beyond what you think could be expected out of a race bike, 400hr+.

I have worked on two 450's recently that had well over 200hr on, and still problem free. One was still standard, the other had the double valve springs fitted, but otherwise engines were untouched

Good to hear guys.they seem relativily problem free if well maintained.like anything tho i guess.previous bike was a 2007 yz450f and rode the pants of that for 4 and a half years with nothing more than regular services and staying on top of the valve clearances.heres to hoping the berg has a similar trouble free life with me.

My only complaint is the bike overheats on low speed single track. Not enough airflow over the rad to stay cool. I solved this by installing a 2006 tank / rad guards / rad fan kit and radiator I also had to upgraded the stator to a higher output one.

I've also recently aquired an FE450E, a 2005. so far its been pretty good. as mentioned by c337b it does tend to overheat when the going is slow. when i bought mine it was stuck in 3rd gear! fortunately it was an easy fix ( just removed the clutch side cover and clutch basket to access the shifting mechanism, there's these two plates that rub together that had formed a burr which i filed flat, problem solved.) i went for a long bush ride last sunday and found that the bike handled beautifully, lots of power and reasonably light weight.

Hi TafelBerg. I have the same problem regarding the gears.

I have removed the clutchcover to have a look...
It seems like the two plates are stuck.

I am afraid i haveto removethe clutch to solve this.
Did you use the two sprcial tools for removing the inner and outer cluch hub??

TafelBerg's forum name is indeed TafelBerg, but I believe that both TafelBerg and jorygh know that so I don't know why I'm telling you :)
