No it is the same tensioner, a blob of aluminum was formed around the end of the tensioner to increase the effect of the 01-03 plastic arms used in those bikes, the 04 came out with a new arm 800.36.002.000. In 05, they changed part numbers again, and also the design; 800.36.002.100 for the 450 and 550, and 820.36.002.000 for the 650. The 06 uses the same part numbers as the 05.

If you have an 01-03 you can use the upgraded plastic, just remove the blob of aluminum from the end of the spring tensioner assembly.

Joe, are you saying that I need too remove the round aluminum piece from the end of the spring tensioner. In the parts manual for a 2001 that piece has a part number of 200 267-01.If I remove that piece the spring tensioner will be about 1/4" shorter.

yes joe is correct and i have done it. go ahead and remove the aluminium lump from the end. i think i put the 4" grinderette across the neck of it and it fell off.

remember your blade is now a lot fatter so your 1/4" (6mm) is needed. the new tensioners (i'm told) look just like yourss will with the blob off.

it does say all this in the doc. somewhere!!!! :D :D

Taffy

If I cut off the 1/4" piece of aluminum at the end of the tensioner, I think the tensioner will be extended to the end of its reach. With the old tensioner slipper the tensioner was at the end of its extension. With the new upgraded tensioner slipper the tensioner is extended about 5 clicks.Just want to be sure before I cut off the aluminum at the end of the tensioner.

Don't cut it off then. The last thing you will do is install the tensioner. If you can't get it to fit because the aluminum is protruding too much, then cut it off

Please let us know what you ended up doing.

There, dilemma solved.

Joe
