Hi all,
I have recently purchased a 2003 FE501, ran fine when picked it up, quick fire up with previous owner.
Took it out for a ride, fired it up - ran fine, tried again 5 mins later, no go - no spark. After reading many threads on the forum do you guys think I am safe to assume it is the SEM stator gone?
If so, are they a swap out, swap in unit?
I am in Adelaide, Austraila - any idea where to get one?
I love the bike but would really love to be able to ride it....... :(
Cheers, David

hi david

firstly you want to check it with a multimeter and you want to be seeing
between wires red/black 3000 ohm +/- 10%
between wires green/black 168 ohm +/- 10%
the usual for a failed sem stator is open circuit between wires red/black
i rewind sem stators my adverts can be found on ebay 1 advert for repairs and another advert to buy complete units
i charge £120 with free return postage and all my rewinds come with 12 months warranty
i own many stators so if you want me to repair yours , i can rewind 1 of mine ready to be sent back as soon as the broken stator arrives with me

cheers kris

hi david
welcome to the forum. i'm no expert on the older bergs but my brother used to have a 2001 501. he loved it but eventually gave up on it because the electrics would die on him. another mate of mine still has his, but just towed him out of the bush last weekend as his fourth stator went on him and he's had enough and selling it now. both of these said it would be great if you could adapt the stator from a japanese bike but never heard of anyone successfully managing that.

Hi,
Im in Australia too. Mt. Gambier SA Im currently waiting for a call back from Flinders motorcycles in Port Pirie, SA's Berg Dealer, For an answer to the same problem Ive got a 99 fe600 and they run the same ignition. Will let you know what I find out.
Cheers Eric

Thanks Eric,
I would love to hear what they say, my investigations so far are making me lean towards sourcing one from overseas - Oz seems to be very expensive for same parts / work :?
Have you had your Berg long?
Cheers, David.

Hi David,
Havent found out anything yet. This is my second Burg. This one I Bought about 3 months ago with electrical problems but half the problem is sorting out what somebody else has done before me. If your considering getting your SEM rewound then this is the way to go as after market ones can cause problems further down the track. The guys that offer a rewind service on this forum seem to be farly competent and are quite willing to give good advice freely on your problems to help you out. Just a matter of choosing who to do your rewind. If you wish to contact me by phone you can reach me on 0408 266 259 and we can discuss further.

Cheers Eric

Hi David,
Flinders Motorcycles got back to me.
If you contact Betta Bikes at Hindmarsh Ph no 83843550 And speak to a guy by the name of Steve He should be able to help you out And hes familiar with Bergs. I dont know of his costs but that depends on what you need doing too. I got a price on a coil for mine through Flinders Cycles $680.00 from France so I guess he couldnt be any worse and the best is hes Local. He does testing and rewinds and seems to be very obliging

Cheers Eric
