please help.

recently as documented on another post i lost a tappet nut. luckily this was recovered and had done no damage at all.

did have to replace the inlet rocker arm as one of the screw threads was crap.

nothing else was touched.

bike will now not start and is at the dealers. he also is tearing his hair out and speaking with other dealers to try and figure it out.

everything is as it should be. carbs been stripped, electrics checked, everything seems normal.

the only non normal sympton is that when the choke is on the engine struggles to turn over on the electric star. choke off no problems.

this is now really starting to annoy me as this is the only off-rd bike that i've ever had to put into the shop in all my years. and i only resorted to that to prevent me throwing the bike in the street and setting fire to it.

even worse it's starting to change my mind about getting another berg.

IMHO. the auto de-comp is not properly adjusted/not working. The starter motor is not able to turn the engine over fast enough.

the decomp can get tangled up with the rockers. i would undo the decomp return spring and then turn engine and get to TDC perfectly. then do the tappets.

slacken the decomp off before you start.

i reckon he may have done something toi the idle?

i would screw the slide height up slightly until it back kicks and behaves like a powerful colt and not a ***** that won't run!

sometimes people turn the idle right down and then it can't start.

Cypher sir
Can you confirm what you have tried so far...
New plug, checked for spark, good fuel (no water), compression, tow starting, car battery & jump leads whilst fettling manual decompressor. Clean carb.
Done these ?
Eliminate them first me thinks.
How about, valves not set at TDC could be 180 degrees out.
Fuel wetting plug.
WD40 in plughole with heated plug .... etc etc.
If you've tried all these ... tell us what you haven't done !!!

Keep at it !!
Regards
Ady

got it back yesterday still not starting as well as it was.

EVERYTHING was tried to figure out what was the matter.
there were a 2 or 3 little things that were slightly out of adjustment but nothing that should have stopped it from starting.

who knows?

out the weekend will see how it goes.

Strange things happen at 5000 RPM. If all was well before the tappet nut came off, can one be certain the nut didn't fall between the rocker and valve causing the valve to lightly kiss the piston and bend a valve. Perform a leakdown and/or compression check to be safe.
