2002 suspension options FS vs. MX

Hi guys,

I have searched, but haven't found a good explanation of the differences between the suspension components on the FS vs. MX (or FE) bikes. My reason is, I have a 2002 FC550 (MX) and my front forks are well worn.. the plastic guides are actually broken inside. I just picked up a set of forks and a rear shock from a 2001 FS650 and I'm wondering what the differences are? The specs show different numbers, and even differences in travel for the rear, but are the differences just in valving?

Thanks for any help! I will probably send both front and rear out for some valving/rework before I install them.

From the specs:

Suspension front
FE model '02: WP MXMA 4860-HBG E ø 48 mm
FS model '02: WP MXMA 4860-HBG S ø 48 mm
FC & FX model '02: WP MXMA 4860-HBG MX ø 48 mm

Suspension rear
FE model '02: WP PDS 5018-HBG E
FS model '02: WP PDS 5018-HBG S
FC & FX model '02: PDS 5018-HBG MX

Hi!
There are difference in metal plate number in valves. Eg FE has softer rebound so it has only two plates in rebound stack part number 4860.0116 FS models need harder rebound so there is 4 pieces per one stack (part number of plate is same).

In the same front suspension in KTM there is advise to use number of plates as require.

Spring rate is much harder too also i think they are also shorter in length too both shock and spring lengths.
