2002 fe501 float level

Hello everyone, I need to now the correct method and measurement for the float height on my 2002 Fe501e. I have recently done a complete overhaul on my bike and the last touches are resetting the carbie.

The Husaberg dealer I have recently purchased parts from has convinced me that he has solved the electric start problem that a lot of us suffer from. After trying everything to fix the problem that I've read on the net, (he has also tried them), he has given me a money back guarantee that dropping a 2004 cam into the 2002 model bikes instantly fixes the problem. He told me he has many satisfied customers in Townsville after doing this fix. He has recently got back from an international conference where he told everyone about this fix.
Apparently the 450 cam gives a similar performance to the original 501 cam but the 650 cam will give the bike a lot more top end, no extra jetting required. I will keep everyone posted.

I did the float level adjustment trick and ended up flooding.

Leave the float as is and try different jets and needles.

What is your current jetting and what is the issue or what are you trying to achieve?

pull the pin out of one end with some pliers and then lay the float on a table. the whole thing should lay flat - if not turn the floats and the 'hook' till they are!

then fit back on the carb and lay the carb on the side nearest the head. the float should lay gently just pushing the fuel valve closed when the line of the float is dead parallel with the split in the carb body.

there are pictures out there somewhere? maybe joeUSA can help?

regards

Taffy

Pete:

I have been running the ´04 cam on my ´02 since last summer. Had a failure after only 5 hrs on the stock cam, so I can´t really tell any difference.
One difference I´ve noted is that the ´04 is shorter by some 2mm on the gear side, so the bearing will not totally fill the mating surface in the head. Not a problem according to Husaberg Sweden. And so far so good. (Checked during teardown after 30 hrs on the new cam.)
Also, the autodecomp needs to be changed, which is actually good, since it is of a higher quality steel and does not wear as much.
Husaberg Sweden told me the 450-550 cam is "milder" than stock, but I cannot tell. As far as starting, mine is easy. Always was, but I have a larger battery fitted under the seat. Slam dunk and easier maintenance..
I wouldn´t fit a new cam to fix a weak battery problem.
But of course your autodecomp could be worn. That can be welded though.
Save your aussie $$$ and look into a battery upgrade!

When it comes to carbs, I am still lost. My next learning experience.
Good luck!

thanks for the tips, :)
The only reason I needed the the float height was to satisfy my curiosity. Yousee I really like to fiddle with my bike. I finally got the information from the local dealer (700kms away). Taffy, he agreed in principle with you except on my bike the floats are independent and share the same float lever arrangement. he said that the float lever should be parallel with the carbie body.
I am yet to fit the new cam but the measurements comparison indicates there is a difference in the timing of the auto-decomp as well as greater lift and duration on the '04 650 cam.
