Looking at a 2002 FE 501 and wondering how they were ? Were they good reliable or bad ? Did they have problems ? I have a 08 ktm which is my race bike and thinking of buying the berg to make a dual sport out of it . Not had much experience with the bergs but any comment will help . Thanks

2001 and 2002 were the ones that needed the most attention due to 2001 new model engine. do a search or two.

How much are they asking? And also what is the condition of the bike? If your getting a good deal and a well taken care of bike, it will be worth it. I took a gamble on a 2000 501 and its been a real good bike for me, so far...

1700.00 for it . Suppose to be in excellent condition. With the new rocker arm up grade , updated kick start shaft , updated cam guide . We are doing a little trading for it when he gets back from vacation . Planning on daul sporting it . It still has all the switches for the blinkers and everything . How do the starters hold up ?

starters can be upgraded to the yam r6 with a little fiddling if its the motor that's bogus. if its autodecomp is worn, a later model "dutch clog" type can be used (may require a steel camgear and machining on the cam, tho). i did the mods to my 650 and it works great.

My fe 02 was a pig to start - nearly made me give up on bergs but the uhe kept me going. Upgrade dutch clog auto de comp - taffy crescent mod and the most dramatic upgrade - new stator (2nd hand). Smashed my kick leg knee on a fall a few weeks ago but even with that damage it still kicks starts easy. Fell off a small hill today - bike upside down. Still 2nd kick. I dont care about the starter but I suppose I might get round to a new battery & r6 mod one day.

PM Taffy - He'll explain & probably sell you one. I believe it is the upgrade re-shaped version of the original auto de comp in the rocker cover. Basically makes kicking the bike easier - no need to mess about with levers or clicking to find TDC. Just kick & go. (assuming everything else is in order).

Alternatively search in the doc in the yellow block on the left of this page. Must be info in there. Good luck.

look in the owners doc on the left panel, you will find a lot of good bathroom reading in there. the dutch clog decomp ws introduced in '04 due primarily to the fact that the 01-03 design ate itself in a short period of time. the name was coined by taffy because the profile looks like one.

Thanks guys for all the info . But now sence I done some research on the bike I beleave I'm pass on the bike . I still like husaberg bikes so I'm not giving up on Husaberg just going to wait a bit .The main thing is the left hand kick start . I broke my left foot a year ago so that might be a problem for me . Thinking I might wait on the 2010 390 . Looks like a interesting bike .

Left foot kick starter does take some time to get used to....The first time I had to left foot start on the motocross track and on the side of a hill, was challenging at best. I'm okay with it now.

Cheers for the new sp stator Taffy - even better than before. Reckon I could almost start it on the kicker with my hand like that U tube post.

not a problem james.

I'm about to try and get a man weighing 18 - 20 stones started on a dirt bike. all in preparation for australia. he'll be blowing out of his arse just mounting it!

regards

Taffy
