I have a chance of buying 2002 FE 400 for cheap.
What do you think of that bike?

I just turned 18, i have been riding for 3 years and now i ride old EXC 300 that i will sell this week so i'm looking for new bike.
I'm riding 90% woods, mainly muddy terrain with good uphills and downhills, some tight single tracks. Not really much open terrain and really big hillcimbs so i don't need much power.
I like my 2 smoke very much but fuel consumption is really bothering me, i need to cary at least 5 liters of fuel in backpack to get somewhere.

Please tell me all you know about that bike, specialy members that had or still have this bike. Are there any issues on that model that i should watch for?

There are always issues..If you like it you get it..
check for noise that there should not be there.some '02 bergs have whining noise due to gear assembly of that year.check for that.check for overheating.look for easy starting.I recommend a newer engine berg from '04 go on.If you are unfamiliar with 4 strokes, you are most likely to have some trouble with it.

I'm very mechanicly inclined so i know how to deal with all problems 2t or 4t.
I'm askin is berg reliable machine or i should get 02 ktm 520 which is very realiable.

Personaly i like the Berg look from that years but i don't know anything about Bergs earlyer than 04-05.

depending on where you are parts can be fairly scarce. Especially after market.

I've got an 02 FE 400 and while they are unique bikes they have their fair share of design flaws (rubbish stators, flywheels with poor adhesive used for the magnets, inferior dellorto carbs, vertically split barrels - meaning to check your piston and rings you've got to tear the whole engine down-, **** electric starters, conical valve springs prone to breaking, poorly designed camshafts and cam follower bearings, low quality valves and a poor standard of finish on the combustion chamber - valve seats hanging out too far, bad valve shrouding, oversized inlet ports and undersized exhaust valves and exhaust ports.

Then theres the undersized swingarm pin, poor quality standard cam chain

On the plus side they come with some trick bits standard, (oversized magura bars, hydraulic clutch, excel rims and a little more adjustability than some of the jap bikes in terms of levers and brake pedals - although your KTM has most of that as well.

If i were you I'd keep your 300 or get a newer one.

That'll be my next bike for sure!
