Is there a way to check the cam chain for wear without removing it?
AJT - seems to think that it may have more than 30 hours on it. And I think he's probably right. And since this seems to be a "potential" problem I was hoping to at least check it out.

I'm sure there are others that have better ways to tell if your timing chain has been stretched. But check your auto tensionor to see how far it’s extended? If it's all the way out I'd be looking deeper in to your motor? Best of luck with JR’s 400. By the way welcome to the two Bergs in the garage club!

Before you take the chain tensionor away, release the spring.
The M10? screw first and then the two screws which hold the tensionor to the crankcase.
Check how many notches you have left.
