2001 Husaberg fx470e overheating during idle and left side rad hose blowing off

I have a 2001 Husaberg FX 470e and it continues to overheat after idling in place for 10 minutes or more. The bike I believe is jetted properly I did the conversion to a keihin carb (FCRMX 41) with the suggested DMS needle and suggested jets. It runs great and starts very easily but when left idling for almost 10 minutes it blows the left hose off the left side cover. To date I have replaced the coolant with engine ice, I have placed a Motion Pro Coolant reservoir tank. I do not see much real estate for a fan. I am at a loss and would greatly appreciate help from this forum.

Lastly the bike has 31 hrs total and near perfect condition other than the over heating.

Your bike was not designed to idle for 10 minutes at a standstill. Since it has no radiator fan, it has to have airflow moving through the fins. That means you have to be moving for the system to work.

When I had my 2005, I updated the tank and shrouds to the 2006+ style. The air flow through these is much better and there is room to fit a fan if necessary.

Your Engine Ice is nice and pretty with the purple color and the catchy name, but it is nothing special as far as anti freeze goes. Regular Glycol based anti freeze with a 70% water mix will transfer hear as well or better.

The key thing to remember is that at a standstill you have no cooling. Flip your kickstand and go ride! You need to evaluate the effectiveness of your cooling system while riding, not in the garage.

The issue with the hose blowing off is concerning. Maybe replace the radiator cap. It should release pressure before any hose blows off.
 
I wouldn't let any of my bikes idle for that long. Maybe 2 minutes that's all even with a fan. Poison Oak Just a little 1-2 days and it will be this time. 5 times this year but all of them haven't be bad. Ray would You be into cutting Down that bush I told You about ?

undo the cap, fill to the overflow and look for bubbles, that's your first job. keep the coolant in the mouth of the rad so you can spot any bubbles.

Rad Hose Issue.

Check for Hydro Carbons in your coolant. Possible head gasket leak. This will heat the **** out of your coolant and blow hoses as per the pressure.

You can buy a simple kit that has a fluid and changes colour upon hydro carbons, Have a exhaust gas analyzer sniff the coolant or do a pressure test and check the amount and location of air loss.

Hope this helped. I think Taffy was trying to say this by looking for bubbles in coolant.

Thank you for your help, I will check for leaks. I assume the transfer from the engine exhaust to the coolant occurs at the head gasket?

Yes the exhaust from the cylinder enters the coolant system and then boils the coolant and pressurizes the system faster than the rad cap can release. Rad caps should release and if yours is stuck can also throw a hose.
 
Nevertheless your radiator cap should release.

Check the cap and it's rating.

Mine didn't release a couple of weeks a go and swelled the radiators beyond being able to be relied upon.

Blown head gasket. It would only pressurize during full throttle.

Piston kit, gaskets and new radiators later all is good.

I would tend to think yours is fine. You are expecting too much from a standing motorcycle running without a fan for too long in your current weather conditions.

Nevertheless check the system.
