2001 fx470e flywheel issue

I was giving my newly acquired 470 an inspection prior to regularly riding it. I found several small issues that needed some attention, nothing major until I pulled the flywheel off. The magnets are beginning to migrate out of the hub itself. They are stil in their original positions, but they are loose. The epoxy or whatever they are cased in is deteriorating significantly. However, they are all in there and none are cracked. The bike still starts easily and runs, but the flywheel could fail soon. The stator itself appears to be undamaged. I am considering trying to refurbish this flywheel due to the difficulty and cost of finding a replacement. I have attached some pics that I hope show the condition. Has anyone out there ever dealt with a situation like this? Any help or inspiration would be greatly appreciated.

hello

that is a poor one for sure but a good electrican will be able to re-pot those magnets. you could try getting a swan neck air jet and flick out the crap then pour in some Loctite 326 which is a magnet glue and then crush it all up in a vice. they run for years with these cracks etc and rarely if ever give any trouble.

cheers

Thanks Taffy for the reply. I was considering taking the magnets out, cleaning everything and reassembling the way they came out. There are still pieces of the bonding material trying to come out.

Kiss

Taffy, I followed your advice and did the kiss method on my flywheel. I squished the magnets back in with clamps after filling that crack with glue. Seems very solid and clean. I guess only time will tell. Thanks for your input on this issue.
