2001 and 2002 FE400e engine problems

NEED ADVICE QUICKLY. I was just getting ready to buy a 2001 FE400e when I checked with a berg expert in New Mexico. He told me to stay away from the 2001 and 2002 FE400 because the crank balancer was defective and the engines were not good past 150 hours. Most had already blown. Can anyone shed some light on this. The guy I may buy from cannot tell if any factory recall was done as he was the second owner. Should I stay clear of the 01 and 02 FE400? Thanks

The smaller engines were not as prone to ballancer failure, but the rocker arms are prone to failure, and Husaberg/KTM has an updater rocker to fix the problem. If the bike has a lot of hours, these issues have probably already come up. I know it sounds sketchy, but you may be able use this as a way of getting the price dropped a little.

look at the owners doc in the menu on the left.
taffy who put it together has an 01 or 02 400 so that is what it is based on
