Bike wont crank, but when it did last week it sounded as if it was running half throttle...could not get the bike to idle down. Carb is clean. Stock jetting. Cannot find any air leaks. checked fire... will jump 12mm air gap, but will only fire 2-3 revolutions and then quit for 2-3 and start over. any help and or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am a novice when it comes to workin on dirtbikes.

last week when it was running, it was atleast half throttle as I said and wouldnt idle down.... Also, if you touched the gas it would bog down and die ....wouldnt even try to go. Motor was just rebuilt top and bottom when I purchased. Dont know by who, but there wasnt any motor noise when it was cranked.

are you checking it by the estart or kick? how are you grounding it? that doesn't sound like a related problem if it is a problem.
are you sure (visual inspection) the carb slide is all the way down at idle and is not hung up by the cable or the set screw? what are the 2 screw settings (turns out from full in) on the carb?

I just cleaned the carb. I have both screws 1 1/2 turns out as a general starting point. I am using the estart. but I have to put jumper cables on it. The guy that had it before me took the wiring harness, battery, battery box, headlight, tail light etc off of the bike. I have it all in the box. I have to put the positive cable on the starter post and ground it to the foot peg to roll it over. I cannot get it to fire by kicking it. I will pull the carb off and make sure that the slide isnt stuck etc. if it is stuck and I do get it to Idle down..... What would cause it to die like that when I touch the gas. I can get picks of the carb.... it is super clean. Im still not sure on the fire... I was gonna send it to taffy soon when I get the extra $ so that he can do a sparks rewind if needed, but I wanted to make sure thats what I needed before I spend that much money.

Thanks for all of your help!

Regards,
Brandon

i would pull the air filter off and get something like a long tie wrap or thin wire and feed it down into the mouth of the carb so it protrudes past the slide toward the engine. lift the slide while feeding it. once thru, let go of the throttle and see if the slide holds the tie/ wire. if not, back out the idle screw til it does. iirc, the idle should be around 4 turns out.
What would cause it to die like that when I touch the gas
too much air, not enough fuel

Thanks brother! I will try this as soon as I get some time this week and will let you know the outcome! :) I appreciate all of the help!
