2000 fe501 jetting

Hello.I am new to this, site although I have browsed to scrounge information many times.
Bought a 2000 fe 501 a couple of years ago on ebay, motor done but needed a tidy up. Anyway tided it up went to go riding, stator failed (started ok at home). Bike sat for awhile (2 years) fixed her up and went riding yesterday
with my son and his 05 250exc. Two years without riding and I can still give the boy a kicking  .
Anyway very impressed with the old Husaberg. I didn't think a bike could feel so slow and still be so quick (I guess thats a good thing). Rode the boys 250 and it feels quite quick and responsive (I come from a big bore 2stroke heritage so I'm not easily impressed with power) but the berg leaves it standing in a drag, and I wiegh 20k's more, but still does not feel fast. It handles beautifully, although a little tall when the front starts coming up on a snotty hill.
Now for the questions; when powering on in to higher gear it burbles and farts rather than lugging through the rev range or even holding its own. You must change down when this happens and its off. Sounds like a jetting problem, perhaps the needle and not giving a smooth transition to the main.
Starting; when it was cold easy, when it was hot another story. I got better as the day went on but I was tending to stop on a hill when I could to avoid the energy draining kicking  (kick start only model). If you touch the throttle forget it. I'd hate to try after being on your head.
Any tips would be most apprieciated.
P.S are thes bikes normally so smooth that they seem slow? :?

welcome.
look at replacing the needle and the needle jet, they are known high wear items (if you're running the dellorto)

Thanks for the welcome. That sounds like a possible cause.
Anyone got any final jetting suggestions for the delorto? Most of my riding is normally between 500 and 1200 metres.
Oh and just to keep the Husaberg purests happy, the old berg gave my boys later KTM a kicking in the handling and suspension department. We'll see when we sort his suspension out a bit. It was crap when I hopped on it. My old '98 Husky WR's would have eaten it alive.

Thanks for the info jampe. I'll suss it out a bit more and see how we go.
Maybe riding this weekend.

Hello.
Forgot to mention the floatheight, it`s very important.
The arms have to be paralell to the carb if you turn it uppside down.
And yes they are fast even if they feel slow ;-)
