Where should I start. Went riding about a month ago. Went to start my bike a week ago wont start figured it was the plug. Now I find out there is no spark. I want to go riding Tuesday! I'm pissed right now. All wires are connected.

Hello Jake

remove your tank and follow the wires up from the ignition stator on the right hand end of the crank. there should be a red/green/black sprout from the top as well as 2 x yellow and a blue.

get a multimeter and click to ohms (200). try green to black and you should get around 165. then click up one or two clicks to 20K ohms etc and go red to black. this SHOULD be 2,700 but is likely NADA/NOWT/NUTTIN!

let us know but that is likely your problem. Husabergs of this time were prone to eating stators.

you can get a chinese copy or that one reconditioned on an exchange basis. I have them in stock and can supply but please deal away from the site by PM'ing me or going to the Taffmeisters link below.

I was wrong. I do have spark. I can't get it started again. I'm king apart the carb right now to clean it out. I have no faith in getting this thing started. I have always owned 2 strokes. This thing is a mystery for me. I hope I'm on the right track. It usually starts hard but not this hard. I've taken it out a total of three times. Noticed the where the throttle cable meets the carb the connection piece was cracked at the carb. Carb seems clean tho.

how long did it sit between rides? dellorto carb?
i had a similar problem years ago where the cam bearing started disintegrating and dropped a ball. bike ran ok, but when i stopped, i couldn't get it started. need to check valve clearances to see if there is something fishy on top.

I was wrong there is spark. Still can't get it started. I took the carb apart. It looked good. I'm starting to think that maybe the decompression is stuck open. Sounds like air is escaping. I disconnected it up at the valves. I am yet to put the carb back together hopefully I get this. Pain in my *** right now. I have no faith in getting this started it seems like. Wish I could say I did. I've always rode two stokes. They start so much easier it seems. I guess I gotta learn the tricks.

Oh sorry to repeat my self. I didn't see that my previous post went up. Okay. I heard those were problems. I'll have to look into it.....

Did you take the jets out and clean them? Especially the pilot jet. It may look clear but actually be half plugged. Use a torch cleaner to ream them out. If it does start but pops and backfires the pilot jet is partially plugged.

If the valves are too tight it may be impossible to kick start. Adjust the valves.

When kicking use the choke and don't touch the throttle one bit.

Use a fresh plug.

Mix pump and race fuel 50/50. Pump fuel these days is bad and getting worse.

Adjust the fuel screw for the highest idle.

Tow start it if you have to in order to get the carb adjusted.

Once everything is adjusted properly it should start in a few kicks with the choke on and no throttle. It will fast idle until it warms up and then the idle speed will drop. Then take the choke off and enjoy.

I almost had it it sounded like. The piston was going for a second or two. I now have hope. I just can't get it again. Thought I might have flooded it so I took a break. Took spark plug out. Looked good. I'm going to go do a job quick and try again in an hour or two. Got my fingers crossed. Never been this hard tho.

Perhaps turn the idle screw in 1/2 turn. Remember don't touch the throttle. Choke on.

Man. I might have to take the canned carb apart again to clean the jets better. I noticed the on on the bottom before the fuel bowel. The fuel bowl was filling with gas if that means anything. Do I turn it idle clock wise? The idle is the screw with the spring on it on the carb right? I'm sorry to sound incompetent but I am not the greatest heat with this stuff and the service manual I got with the bike sucks.

Yes turn the screw with the spring clockwise 1/2 turn just to bump the idle up a bit.

Okay back to no spark must be intermittent. I check the red and black. Came out to .8M so much higher then it should be. green and black had correct reading. Took out the stator. It was very corroded. I tried cleaning the stator with sand paper and rechecked the ohms reading. No difference. I can't seem to break the stator lose from the case cover, is there a trick? I tried to wedge it off; I tried to take the rubber screw out also but it started to strip. I figured if I got that out I could hit the stator lose from the out side.... not really sure what to do at this point.... let me know! Thanks guys!

jeez!

you're going through purgatory there mate!

if you have what I call snap on 90d screw driver flat blades then they make great levers.

I don't know what 8m is for a reading but it sounds bad? what i would say is that you shouldn't espect to see a spark with a wet plug. the spark disappears.

what I'd like you to do this time is to remove the MJ and then look down in the hole and you'll see a brass tube. get that out. inside the throat at the top end you'll see a ridge 2mm down and about 0.1mm wide. this is your canray in the coal mine. it tells you how worn stuff is.

next to the MJ is the PJ. remove this and look down inside. it too should have a jet underneath inside the tube but it is often missing.
