2000 FC600 for MX?

Hi All,

Hey, thanks for all your earlier comments re: bike opinions. Now another question

Looks like the group says the 2000 FC501 is the best bike for my intended purpose (intermediate rider, 6'2" 190 lbs, outdoor motocross, use to ride early 90's CR/YZ 250s). Here's the question: I don't have a line on a 2000 FC501, but I do on a 2000 FC600...

How different are these two motorcycles? Just bigger motor, or different geometry, too? What is the delta in power? I gather rear wheel HP is somewhere in the low 50's? Equivalent to say, a CR500? Which is quite enough to scare the piss out of me, as I found the 2-stroke 250s to be more than adequate.

What is the power delivery like? Broad and linear? Or peaky with a hit? With 50 HP on an MX track, I think peaky with a hit will a.) wear me down to a nubbin and b.) spit me off into the nearest fence...if it is that way, anyway to smooth/detune things a bit?

All responses welcome. Thanks in advance.

FC600.....big horsepower holeshot king. Can you hang on to it for an entire moto, thats the question. Should be the same as the 501 except more of it. The FC600's make excellent play bikes. I don't know of anybody shy of expert who could make resonable use of one on an MX track. You better be in good shape and eating your Wheaties if you want to even consider racing one. All that considered, it's still a 6 year old bike.

As always, thats just my opinion....
