2000 FC501 Oil in coolant...why?

First of all thanks for your time, I am new to this site (and husabergs) and need some help.
I am an ASE Certified Master Auto tech from Oregon U.S.A. I have this 2000 FC501 that I bought not running. I can pour coolant in the radiator and it runs out the oil fill plug. it also comes out the crancase breather hose off of the head, when the engine is kicked over. Any common problems or things I should look at during tear down? Thanks in advance for your help...

Sounds like you're going to have some fun.

Welcome aboard. And it's nice to have another mechanic on the forum.

Well I called motoxotica and found out that It's either the headgasket, a crack, or the two orings and seal in the waterpump. It may be the headgasket, but In that case I would suspect oil residue in the radiator also and possibly coolant and or oil in the combustion chamber. This would be due to the oil pressure overcoming the water pressure and pushing oil into the coolant. But I only have coolant in the oil and at this point hope and suspect that the waterpump seals and orings are the culprit. I woulod like to know if headgasket replacement is a must on 'bergs or is it common to reuse them?(I am going to get a new one)

This is the first husaberg that I have owned, and it reminds me of a Porsche 928. As long as you like working on it more than you like driving it you will be happy.....

I would replace the gasket. 00 501 doesn't have pressurized lubrication to the rockers hence no pressurized oil gallys to pump oil into the water. Lubricated by splash from the cam chain. Of course it could be the water pump seals.

Based on your description look close for a crack in the cylinder. Such a crack is quite difficult to see requiring good lighting and possibly heating the cylinder via an oven.

Seen such on more than a single occasion.

Hope this helps.

Well I did the teardown just a few min ago, found one of the rockerarm rollers had given out, broke the valvle adjustment screw, sent the screw through the top of the head, a nice dime size hole right below the camshaft. It also looks like it had contact with the water pump impeller and o-rings. I did however find all of the bits, they kept to the top end, so I beleive I have a good bottom end. Luckily I know how to TIG weld, so I may be able to fix it. Anyone have a head that will fit?
