Has anyone with the TE250 or TE300 encountered any issues with water crossings? The air intake looks mighty low and not very well protected....

I've ordered a 250 and am slightly concerned by this - my FE550 plows through rivers!

well its never going to be quite as much of a submarine as the 4st due to the location of the airfilter but i've had mine in crossings up to the seat with no problems and its completly standard.

That'll do for me - thanks for the info :)

Another thing you can do is to cut in a "T" fitting into both of the vent lines on top of the carb and run two breather tubes up behind the number plate.

Fold the ends of these two tubes over in a radius to keep water from just running down them when you wash the bike.

This way when you are crossing water and get hung up, your bike will not stall out when the breather tubes are submerged. This is an old Enduro trick from back in the day.

+1, I run mine up under the gas tank - ride in the NW so we see DEEP and LONG mini lakes to frequently cross and this method has not let me down once yet. I use the same think I use on the end of my gas tank vent line on the end of the carb lines(t them into one) to keep water out from the top side while washing.
