1st Enduro - advice please

just remember to dress for the weather and that its a 4 hr race so as long as you keep up a resonable pace your likely to do better than those that go flat out for an hour then start to fade. the tortoise and hare syndrome.

learn about time keeping, study the route sheet and try and understand how the race is laid out and where the possible checks, free zones are etc. this will take you more than one race.

since this is your first ride i wouldn't worry so much about keeping time (but definitely start to try and understand what's going on and how the race works). try and get on a row with a more experienced rider, keep an eye out for him and don't pass him. you'll probably catch up to him at gas stops and resets, then stay with him for as long as you can.

Your exhuast should be fine the worst they will do is ask you to sort it for next time.

TBEC can be a bit funny about front sprocket guards if you can get one or even bodge some kind of cover out of a platic bottle or something it will be better.

I went years hating camelbaks but have now started using them as the hot weather can lead to cramps and a dry and dusty mouth is pretty horrible for 2 hours.

The furthest you will ever be from the pits at this venue is a 10minute push back so dont worry about carrying tools leave a few bits and bobs in the pits with some fuel.

Start slow and speed up as you get your confidence for the sake of being 2 minutes slower on your first lap it will be better than picking your bike and up feeling tired at the end.

Sorry just just read again and noticed you said top chain guard not front sprocket guard no top chain guard is fine but you will need a front sprocket guard and a lower rear sprocket guard.

im guessing its a short course h&h type event without time checks

so id go for minimum tools, basically enough to get you back to the pit.

off the top of my head i usually got 8,10,13mm spanners. i got one that does the spindles, double ended screw driver, needle nose pliers. plus a few zip ties. couple of chain links and a small film canister with a few nuts and bolts in.

front brake and clutch lever. possibly a gear lever - i carry one for some reason even though i've never broke one - couple of spare chain links and the pliers to change them.

racing i use a bumbag (belt) with a camel back bladder.

trail riding i use a camel back mule which has room for tools etc

martin and i must have been typing at the same time. id still carry a few tools though as its a damn sight easier to ride your bike to the pits than push it.

I personaly never carry tools knowing my luck unless i carry my whole garage with me i'll guarantee i've left out the only thing i need uppydogeyes:
