i have a 1999 fc 501 I'm the second owner bike has all ways ran awesome the the other daythe beast died idling before i got to go ride now she won't fire up again i have no idea were to start every shop I've called acts like i have the plague when i tell them what I've got

you might want to start by checking your stator its really common with husabergs thats run sem ignition , if you check the owners doc in the electrical section it will tell you exactly how to test

cheers kris

I will be doing that today is there any were to get a new stator/fly wheel or have myn rewound ?? Appreciate all of the help

you won't find a new stator or flywheel anywhere. the company that made them folded in 2008. your stator can be reconditioned by Kris or through myself/Bradford Ignitions.

this sounds like a real SEM stator breakdown. check the red to black from the stator and you'll have well less than 2,700 ohms. the green to black should be 165 and this is normally OK.

You can start by checking for fuel and spark? Pull the spark plug, is it wet? Has spark? Weird engine noises when cranking? Don't check for a bad stator if the plug is dry and it has spark....Need a little more info to give better direction

No noises has good spark the plug was a little dark and dirty and is getting fuel it started flooding today when i tryed ro kick it over again in hopes she would fire

Hi

About everything needs to be good to start a berg  but when it good it starts very well

Some times it's a bit of a lot of things, but in my experience, if you have a good spark, the major major thing is the carb.

Start by raising the idle a bit, a lot of times it helps. Also a clean carb is necessary !

Good luck ... believe me I know the feeling !!

Yez today i will be messing withe the carb hacent fully opened it yet but the flaot bowl is spotless the bike has only ever had non ethanol premium in it .... this is very frustrating especialy since I'm getting new plastics and bars in the mail today

you can also verify "good" spark by removing the spark plug cap and holding the bare wire about 10mm from a cylinder head bolt and make sure it jumps that gap when cranking, they have been know to have a weak spark when checked but the spark isnt strong enough to fire under compression.....also dont hold the spark plug wire with your hands when you test it unless you like getting electricuted :D

Sooo, it ran well before. You have spark, sounds like you have fuel (wet plug).I don't think that your timing could go "off". Wouldn't that involve jumping a timing chain or the stator coming loose? What about a broken valve spring? That could be the cause of it just dying.

Thanks for all the help i got her going she purred like a kitten roared like a lion my question now is could my bike have flooded while it was idling if the screw backed up a bit ?

good to hear, either screw can back out if it was either waaaaaay to lose that it wasn't doing anything to affect idle anyway and not holding tension on the spring, or if its missing the spring altogether it'll fall right out I wouldn't think it to loosen out if there was tension on it from the spring.....

I don't think there's a spring period !! There's no tension on it Ault all and it doesn't affect my idol but none the less its running im noticing a bog going down to a idle and trying to rev it back up every once n a while when it comes down to an idle and I go to rev it it just puttered and died but fires right back up and will run fine can I put another carb on it ? Im mainly riding high dessert trails ranging from 3000 ft on up depending on were I choose to ride in great central OR

yea i think there is a spring on both of the screws if i remember right, i sold mine a year ago or so.....you can put another carb on it if you want to, i personnally wasnt a real fan of the dellorto and have a mikuni tm40 on mine, it requires a 2 cable (push-pull throttle handle) or on mine a just used one cable and added a extra spring to help it return...other people have also used keihin 41 carbs, both are pumper carbs and both are great upgrades to the dellorto, the keihin although is the most common upgrade it isnt cheap though....the mikuni will do everything you want it too and you will wonder why they didnt put a pump carb on those bikes in the first place, probably no real power gains alothough you will feel like there is one due to the increase in throttle response.....

So by switching to a mikuni will get ride of the occasional bog ? My bikes just getting a burst of air ? Thanks for all the help also is it possible to get lights for this beast she's all ready wired up for them the switches are there and power in the lines im thinking all I need is a voltage regulator and lights is that possable

set up right the dell orto has no flat spots or coughs. BUT it isn't a smooth as the Keihin.

you need to make sure the dell orto has fresh brass in it and then it is fine.

ignition timing being wrong can exacerbate any problems. even the tappets.

Im not sure on the lighting thing....I though the fc's didn't have a lighting circuit in the stator but I really don't know, does your stator have two yellows? if it does and has switches maybe someone has added something I really don't know in the fc or fx models though, and yea like taff said the dellorto shouldn't really have any bog if its set up right and everything else also in check too, its an old bike sometimes you can have more than one problem haha
