I just happened across a good 98 FE 400 and it followed me home. I need to get some lighting on it and have a dual 100 watt PIAA setup off of a XR600 and want to know if the stator can handle 100 watts ? Also is it AC or DC on the lighting output. I like to run relays and it's a bitch with AC power

Hi glh,

Are you wanting to use a battery or not, if not you are better just regulating the AC current as you accumulate less losses by not rectifying it.
You should get around 100w if you run both windings in parallel, ie join both Yellows together and feed as one to a regulator.
But you may need a switch that can handle the extra power, the lesser components in the curcuit the better.
Oh and welcome to the site you should be able to pick up some interesting tips on here.

welcome.
the output is ac and supposed to be about 120w? using both yellows.

I'm confused ( as usual , think of a dog stareing at a ceiling fan.........) How much juice do i need to run the cdi ? If I take all the stator output what runs the spark box ?

The ignition system runs on a separate set of windings, nothing to do with charging/lighting circuit.
